"Lundgren’s latest DTV film ‘Direct Contact’ was released earlier this year to little acclaim or viewers."
I think there's simpler than that: Sly and Dolph have been friends for more than 20 years now, they get together regularly, and Sly was probably more than happy to call back his ROCKY IV pal when JCVD declined (JC probably was asked first because of his bigger mainstream stature). And sure Sly might have seen clips of Dolph's directorial work or heard about it, plus they have the producers now...Warchild wrote:I don't care what she says, this is Dolph's comeback, Stallone must have seen something on Dolph's last 3 movies that he liked about.
“Lundgren was never a major star, never on the level of some of the other eighties stars so I don’t know what kind of comeback he’s looking to have,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “Is he looking for a return to the heady days of ‘Red Scorpion’ or ‘I come in Peace’? I mean all power to him, he seems like a nice guy and everything but some people just need to realize that their time has come and gone. Realize that and accept it, not exploit it to try and make a comeback. The thing with Lundgren is he had his shot. He was this muscular, intelligent, charismatic presence. He even spoke English better than his counterparts including the native English speakers and it just didn’t work out for him. He had his shot and it didn’t work out for him, kinda like the dinosaurs. Best of luck to him, but he shouldn’t hold out a whole lot of hope.”
