Awesome! 8)

You can spot Kenji Yamaki from THE PUNISHER, maybe Hirofumi Kanayama although I'm less certain, and Shokei Matsui who became the youngest world champion in 1987, succeeded the 100-man kumite test, and is now one of the heads of Kyokushin Karate since master Oyama's passing in 1994...

So I'm not sure if it's right before or after the filming of THE PUNISHER (when he did promo for RED SCORPION in Japan during the winter 1988-89), a couple of months away from the production of DARK ANGEL...

The following pics might be from that session:

Same as this one:
Jox wrote:Rare piece of Dolph's and Kyokushin Karate history here, the infamous fight that opposed the then Swedish green belt against the world champion Makoto Nakamura at the 1979 World Tournament. There was a winner but even master Oyama didn't approve the decision of judges so there's been two prolongations... Lundgren made a huge sensation at this tournament that people still remember today.

DOLPH LUNDGREN I

Image

In the soon to be released French book TIGRES ET DRAGONS: DES ARTS MARTIAUX AU CINEMA (vol. 2), I share an in-depth, never-published interview I did with Dolph in 2008 where we go back on his karate background, his beginnings, competitions, 3rd Dan grading, martial arts in movies, MMA, and more...

I'm weighing and haven't yet decided how and where I should publish the original English interview...

Complete video with a montage of Dolph being welcomed by Kenji Yamaki and Hirofumi Kanayama.

I think this was a month or two after filming THE PUNISHER when Dolph went to promote RED SCORPION in Japan circa late 1988 early '89 and came back to train at Mas Oyama's dojo under Shokei Matsui (one of the Kyokushin leaders since Oyama's passing).
