MISC TRIVIA:
I recently discovered that PUNISHER writer (and future director) Boaz Yakin participated in the recutting of CYBORG along with JCVD and their mutual friend Sheldon Lettich...

Yakin in an email to me:
And yes, when I was a very young man, I must admit I helped keep JCVD's career! He had made Bloodsport, which did well, and then those Cannon guys put him in Cyborg, which had some cool visuals but was an absolute and total mess (and I mean mess, when I say mess) and they were going to put it straight to video, which was not good for JC as his second film. He and Sheldon showed me the cut, and I was like— 'wait up, I think there's something we can do with this, change the structure, etc',

So I went into the editing room and recut three reels with the editor, while Sheldon and JC worked on the other reels in the other room. When they showed the new assembly we made to the heads of Cannon they decided to release it theatrical again. Sheldon and JC changed a bunch of my stuff, and they reshot a new ending to make a better fight and it was released in the theaters and did well enough for JCVD to stay a viable star...

The good old 80's

P.S.
Yakin also complimented me for what he read of the PUNISHER book manuscript during his busy schedule...

Finally found the ad for the sole U.S. theatrical screening at the L.A. Comic Book and SciFi Convention held on July 8, 1990 8)

(Although Dolph is mentioned as a tentative guest, it seems he did not attend -- perhaps finishing filming on COVER-UP...)

*** BOOK UPDATE ***

It’s been 5 years since the original French edition of the #PunisherBook was published…

Since publication, I have been diligently at work, greatly expanding the text for its English version.

As work with my editor turns to touch-up, I think about how I did not intend to take this long with the book… and yet it’s all been worth it.

I hope my commitment to chronicling this era of filmmaking, will result in a book that you’ll enjoy reading and will become the definitive making of THE PUNISHER ’89…

Thank you for your continuous support, as I’m asking you to wait patiently for a few more months before a release date can be set, it’s gonna be a feast once it reaches your hands and eyes!

hey JOX as I understand the Unrated Cut is the actual Director's Cut of The Punisher (1989). Not the Workprint version. I understand deleted prologue was kind of different than the rest of the movie, but why Goldblatt deleted also some more death scenes presented on workprint and missing in Unrated Cut, For example the guy who is sitting on the chair in cafe scene where drug lords are shoot and poisoned by Tanaka. It created some goofs in continuity. There are more guys who got shot by Castle at he dock and circus, park scene present on workprint but missing from Unrated Cut Extra jump kick before one of yakuza got killed in the red roo. There is one fan made version on net called The Punisher. Maximum Penalty Edition where everyone can see this cuts very easy (remaster footage + workprint tape together). I mean the real Unrated version with gore and dead guys could be longer more that 20 seconds. At least 1 full minute. Why those shots have been deleted ? Didn't fit the music tempo or what ? Did u get the chance to ask Mark Goldblatt ?

Grateful and humbled to announce a last-minute interview addition with one most important cast member that was missing for the book, the one and only "Sir" Louis Gossett Jr...! 8)

A brief interview with cinematographer Ian Baker, who has notably been director Fred Schepisi's DP on most of his films:
