New episode has arrived! JCVD super fan David Ullman from his podcast, "Long Walk for a Short Drink" joins the podcast to discuss the brutal, but amazing sequel that is UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: REGENERATION! While the film is more scaled back in terms of budget, it doesn't skimp in the action department! Listen in as David and I discuss this gem from 2009! Enjoy!

Scott Adkins circa 2010:
Did you happen to see Universal Soldier: Regeneration? If so, what were your thoughts?

S.A - I really enjoyed it. I thought John Hyams did an incredible job. I loved the mood of the film and the way it didn't try to explain everything that had gone before. There was actually talk of me playing the Mike Pyle part at one point but then it stopped. When I saw the film I was really dissapointed I didn't get that opportunity. I thought the action was really well done apart from the fact you could tell it was stunt doubles all the time. I know the stunt guys though and was impressed with what they did. I'm really excited to see what John does next. If I was a Hollywood producer I would snap him up and give him a big budget straight away.

That's wild. I can still remember buying it at a Best Buy here in the States. Had some kind of $5 off coupon for it! Money well spent.

Nu Image didn't have anything to do with REGENERATION par from the fact that their studios / soundstages were used and a few of the same crew members worked on it.

I'd gave thought we'd be up for 4K releases of this and Day Of Reckoning by now.

I don't know, because as far as I know both films were completed / mastered in 2K, so to produce a proper 4K release would involve going back to the initial raw files and completely re-do the films which would cost a lot Sony or StudioCanal are willing to spend on this. Otherwise they would upscale them in 4K which would be a rip-off (although that's happened with lots of movies shot in digital that were finalized in 2K, even blockbusters)...
