Box Office Report: 'Expendables 2' Opening Strong, but How Strong?
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/expendables-2-box-office-sylvester-stallone-363825
By early Friday evening, Expendables 2 was trailing the first Expendables, which opened on the same weekend in 2010 and quickly transformed into a sleeper hit after grossing $13.3 million on its first Friday.

Estimates show Expendables 2 grossing $11 million on Friday for a weekend debut in the $29 million range. The film could catch up as the night and weekend progress.
Lionsgate acquired North American and U.K. rights to Expendables 2 for $35 million.

Just saw it!!! Dolph stole the show and got easily the best reaction from my theater viewing... liked him much better in this than the first. I am anticipating a lot more doors will open for him now with his performance in this film. :D

Total blast. Beats out the first film because it's way more team-oriented. A lot of Arnold's stuff didn't go down so smooth but everyone else was fun to watch. Van Damme was a perfect foil.

Lundgren was tremendous. His mating call cough on the plane was funny as hell. Typically his loony characters are villains or, in the case of the first film, morally adrift so it was a treat to see him play a heroic nutjob.

Can't wait to see it again. Hopefully soon.

Friday box office US - 10.5 mill, according to Box Office Mojo - just an estimate but it'll be within 200,000 accuracy.

Is there any chance of a director's cut with this one....Jox maybe?

Less than with the first one, but I hope so, given all the elipses indicating omitted footage, including Gunnar's "fighting and singing" scene.

1st weekend : 28 milions $
Let's hope the w-t-m is good, so it can have good legs and achieve the 100milions$.
I'm quite sure the bomb incident had an effect on the numbers (as the killing spree for tdkr), so the Exp 2 would easily have made more than 30 millions, possibly better than the first one.

The week-end isn't even over yet! (only 1PM in LA) Why don't they wait before posting estimates?!

WOM has been excellent in my neck of the woods... everyone I know has seen it or is going to... and also the reviews are also much better than the first film so I"m not sure why the heck it's underperforming... stupid twilight/transformer generation would be my guess.

I thought the film was excellent and an obvious improvement over the original. Dolph didn't quite stand out like in the first film, though. Personally, I preferred him being the more angry and vengeful Gunnar, but that's just me; He was still great in this and had some good moments. I hope the box office numbers pick up because it's discouraging to see this perform below the first film.

The Expendables 2 debuted to an estimated $28.75 million from 3,316 locations. That's off 17 percent from the original Expendables, which scored $34.8 million on its opening weekend in August 2010. Lionsgate reported that the movie's audience was 63 percent male and 65 percent over the age of 25, and that they awarded the movie an "A-" CinemaScore.
