I really rated Maximum Risk, I thought it was one of VD's best. Dolph should work with Ringo Lam, I think his style would suit the big man...

Yes it's been 10 years I wish Dolph would work with Ringo Lam but according to all people closed to him he retired and doesn't want to make movies anymore [I don't know if it's related but he's been burned big time on AFTER DEATH/WAKE OF DEATH which the producer Philippe Martinez (also THE DEFENDER) took away from him under his nose].

EDIT: here is a recent pic of Ringo with JOHNNIE TO (another fantastic director for Dolph) during a retrospective just posted on FB

I've always been a little unclear and curious on the history and development of WAKE OF DEATH? What essentially went down? Did Ringo Lam shoot any of the film, or was he released before production began? Did Philipe Martinez really direct the film? I thought he was just producer...

Coincidentally, I've read some poor things about Philipe Martinez... Is his bad reputation the reason we haven't heard or seen too much from him lately?

I realize this is a Dolph forum, but I've always wondered...

No Ringo didn't shoot anything. Martinez rewrote (improvised) it and directed it (he had already done CITIZEN VERDICT with Jerry Springer and Armand Assante). This is what Ross Clarkson had told me 4 years ago:
at the moment, nobody can get Ringo to work at all. He keeps getting offers and keeps saying no. Actually I live 10 minutes away from where Ringo lives, and used to go [...] barbecues and stuff but [...] he's not very sociable at all... Because, he wasn't happy when Philippe Martinez set him up and kept him off for a job.. which was a total set up because Martinez went on to direct himself, they just used Ringo's name to get the movie financed. He took that pretty badly. Well, the week after they sent Ringo in Montreal they started shooting in South Africa so it was already set up...

Cool. He's American? Doesn't seem much known elsewhere.

About two weeks left of principal photography (main unit filming), Dolph should be on the set on Monday.

Dolph will have one week of filming, but technically that doesn't say how much screen time he's gonna have or how it's gonna feel in the completed movie. I haven't read the screenplay nor did I see the finished edited movie so I can't tell! Sure if he was on set the whole time would be telling but X days doesn't always = X screen time (not mentioning it doesn't matter so much to only care about days on set and screen time, if the movie works and the part is meaningful).

Interesting fan-made poster (by MGX):
