At least Sony have made some sort of effort with special features for once. Hopefully we get more. Fingers crossed the UK release will be confirmed soon too. Can't wait. It has to be a good sign that the film has been shot-cut-and released all within the space of a year. There's normally a longer wait for Dolph's flicks.

92 mins - not too long, not too short and leaves plenty of time for story as well as action. Although I'd like to know the reason for deleting the scenes that will be in the special features? A couple of minutes added on wouldn't have made the difference - perhaps they were unwanted or irrelevant subplots or alternate scenes.

that's usually the reasons why scenes get chopped off plus rhythm and pace; or sometimes producers and distributors demand to be delivered a movie of a very specific runtime especially for DTV I think they'd rather have it under 100 mins... for "The Defender", almost nothing was deleted except that the script was being polished by Dolph during filming so that he would maximize his short schedule and shoot only what he needed... "The Mechanik" script was rather short (65 or 70 pages) and even though Dolph was arguing that the action scenes would fill out the time, producers demanded that he put it out on paper and extend the script, so again I don't think anything was cut...

so we'll see about those 6 deleted MM scenes but I trust there were good reasons to do so, maybe there' just extended versions of scenes remaining in the film...? but that's interesting because except for the US alternate ending (and the Punisher workprint actually) this is the first time we'll have deleted footage from a Dolph movie...

but for some reason I'm not so excited about those yet probably because it;'s coming at the time as the actual feature: so it's not like something we had time to digest and fantasize about, like I'd go crazy if we got to see the deleted footage from MOTU or RS (I'd even be a sucker for the supposedly awful "Agent Red" 's 40 minutes chopped off the original cut)...

but hey it's Sony so at least we have extras and that we can be happy about because it wasn't a done deal!

It made the rest look like The Godfather in comparison. Not much of the movie that's left, between the re-shoots, stock footage etc, is actually Damien Lee's. All the more remarkable given his commentary, where he qoutes from famous film making text books, and has the gaul to make out he directed shots that are clearly stock shots. It doesn't surprise me Dolph hasn't worked with Damien again. Thank god too.

Even in the words of Andrew Stevens, who was the king of producing stock footage movies for Phoenician Ent., the original cut was poorly shot in every conceivable way.
