Sony - for once I am glad they are releasing the movie - despite not giving Seagal and Van Damme the treatment they deserve they have never done Dolph any wrong.

Come on over to Germany and you'll be allowed to drink as much red wine as you can keep down - or rather more.
And then, to really corrupt you, I'll lend you DD which is rated "18 and over".
;)

No, seriously, a 16 year old Dolph fan? There is still hope!
Hope you've watched his old movies.

@Mosquito:
That really was the lamest booby trap in the world. Well, maybe it's hinges had rusted, which would make it realistic. - But there certainly was no call for anyone to get KILLED by it.
The old lady whose groceries I carried home for her today could have evaded that one!

I was stunned by how good Dolph is looking in the movie. He's aging very well.

Overall, the movie wasn't as bad as I had feared after the trailer.
But I really wish Dolph would do something a little more unexpected.

I don't mean to say something without action - I am completely in favour of gratuitious violence.
But something with more twists and turns, and more witty conversations.

I know it's late to say this now that the movie is out, but believe me, DD was all that on paper: a lot of (good not too cheap) twists and smartly written dialogues...

We're all crossing our fingers regarding "Missionary Man", but there should be no comparison...

Yeah... except retitling "The Mechanik" as "The Russian Specialist", accurate but ridiculously pointless... Dolph is quite fond of Charles Bronson movies and that was obviously an homage to his "Mechanic". What's not said in the film is that mechanic also means hitman in some lingo...

Yeah, I read what you had to say on the subject of the script.
Why they didn't do it that way beats me - it's not as if it would have been more expensive. Well, it would have required a bit more forethought and rehearsals, maybe.

DD was quite one-dimensional IMHO, and I would have to give it the "better than I expected but worse than I hoped" rating.
And as for Dolph, he would get a "could do better if he tried". ;)

I hope MM will be better, too.

Well, all I can say is that this is a sensitive subject, and that the movie business is quite complex. I can't go into the details, but a lot of bad circumstances arose and once they were stuck on location they did the best with what they had. Everybody had the best intentions for the film especially Dolph...

DD was quite one-dimensional IMHO

call me stupid or ignorant but what does IMHO means, I see that everywhere now?!

IMHO = In my humble opinion ;)

Well, I know it is always easier to criticise than to create.
An maybe I should wait till I've successfully published my first novel before I bash someone else. ;)

But it is just that I really wish there could be another movie like "I come in Peace".

If only I was a multimillionaire, I'd fund something like that. ;)

Isn't there a saying about learning from the past errors? I guess Missionary Man will be better than Diamond Dogs, which I have not seen, so I can't really judge...

If I was a multimillionaire, I'd support you :)

It has been on the Internet almost since the beginning. ;-) Here's a very long list:

Absolutely. I know that I wouldn't be better (or even the same level). But on the other hand: You and me never had training and don't get paid for that. When I work in my profession I deliver good results. But - I have to admit - there were some rough projects because the circumstances were very difficult. So yes, I understand that they didn't have the same possibilities than a Bruce Willis or a Michael Bay has. Plus: Bay even delivers crap all the time despite the big budgets.

Yes, "I come in Peace" was nice. Still cheesy and cheap. And Matthias Hues had the same problem that William Shriver has with Diamond Dogs: He sometimes came across too friendly. Remember that car chase? Matthias Hues is supposed to be the ultimate unscrupulous and evil alien but he shows such a friendly smile. Loved that smile though. ;)

And if I'd be a multi-millionaire I'd team up with you. I've heard about the "stupid German money" that they use for big budget productions with questionable scripts and business cases. 8)

Well, I suppose, I mean the new title is not as good as The Mechanik but when you see the attrocious dvd covers Seagal gets we should be glad Dolph got a kickass cover:

Examples:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Attack-Force-St ... 869&sr=8-1

http://www.amazon.com/Urban-Justice-Dub ... 013&sr=8-1

Now Dolph:

http://www.amazon.com/Russian-Specialis ... 046&sr=1-1

Kick ass!! Fantastic! Ridiculous Seagal cover but.

I might take you up on that. Been a long time since I was in Hannover for a party and I liked the city.
Or you'll come over to Aachen. For Red Wine & Red Scorpion and behaving like silly schoolgirls. :)

Yes, "I come in Peace" was nice. Still cheesy and cheap.

I love it. And for once the "love interest" isn't a whore or a stupid bit of fluff but an intelligent woman (and even the terrible hairdo does her less damage than it would others) - who doesn't really understand why she ended up with a roughneck like Jack Caine in the first place.

I had a sort of love/hate thing with a police detective once and I can totally understand her when she says: "This time when you had me wondering if you're alive or dead I was kind of rooting for dead."

Remember that car chase? Matthias Hues is supposed to be the ultimate unscrupulous and evil alien but he shows such a friendly smile. Loved that smile though. ;)

Well, the alien says: "I come in peace!" And it means: "I'll pump you full of heroin and suck your brains out!"
Maybe a friendly smile is the equivalent of a ferocious scowl on his planet. ;)

Actually, I find it more disturbing when a bad guy is looking friendly - you always know that that is when things get really bad.

Well yeah I was just reminded by a Van Damme fan that "a good dvd cover is more important these days than ever to sell a DTV movie". He said his local rental store had 3 "Diamond Dogs" posters on the door: the store owner told him that he put up this poster "cause it looks great, fresh and entertaining for a late Dolph Lundgren movie and people could buy this movie with a poster like this cause it looks and feels also like Fight Club."

I've always been wondering why this alien always said "I come in peace"? Obviously, he didn't...
