I actually have to inquire about who is behind this surprise release (for which there was absolutely no ad or press release, things I have found for The Inquiry, even ads on craigslist). For instance, Sony had nothing to do with the Dallas premiere, and they're announcing the DVD as a DVD premiere movie. But who knows it might be a test release as they do sometimes, which if it goes well can lead to more...
But one thing's for sure, premieres, and even a tiny release like that costs money, especially for a film mastered directly from Super 16 to HD and that was supposed to go straight to DVD. They mostly likely had to blow it to a film print, which can be an expensive process, plus the cost of the print itself, transportation etc. So even if the movie wasn't what we expect it to be, it still HAS TO BE GOOD, and at least in the range of "The Defender" and "The Mechanik". It never happened for Dolph's DTV flicks before and I don't think it would for a product on the levels or say "Detention" or "Diamond Dogs", even the fun "Direct Action" wouldn't be good enough...
