DNC's Lundgren actioner gets TV support

Indie distributor DNC Entertainment is to support its July 21 DVD release of Dolph Lundgren’s “The Mechanik” with an extensive marketing campaign including terrestrial and digital satellite television advertising, consumer press advertising and a national PR campaign.

The guy is totally clueless, apparently. First he talks about Dolph Lundgren as a "young Russian actor", then he asks why Ben Cross is in an all-Russian production. So he really seems to think that Dolph is Russian. Still he talks about Bulgarian backdrops, which contradicts his "all Russian" theory. *tsts*

This has been a long time comingto the UK, but now it's out I hear bad things about the DVD. Is it true the picture is fullscreen only? If it is, that's VERY poor for a recent release. Also, it's only 90 minutes, I thought it was longer?
I think I'll stick with the Dutch release with DTS if it is.

I haven't had a copy to review it and I thought it was widescreen, but now that you mention it and if we believe those screen captures then is a poor/cheap full screen edition (come on wake up distributors, it's 2008 not 1998 anymore!)

90 minutes is accurate running time for a PAL (European standard) copy.

I've investigated more, and even the cover art states it's 4:3.
On further inspection, the sound is also 2.0 surround only;

I looked at it yesterday and it is indeed 4-3 and 2.0 sound. Ridiculous really. I wouldn't recommend getting the UK one for anyone in the UK. Try and get a hold of the German version. It's widescreen, 5.1, and has a making of. Make sure to get the uncut one though.

At least Sony give you a mininum standard of widescreen and 5.1.

It might be worth investigating further, because DNC aren't the most accurate company around, and it could be a cover misprint. And, seeing that theres no other 4:3 print out there, it's unusual.

I already have Mechanik, I'm just a sucker for Uk covers! Sad, I know.
I'm not sure what version I have, it's from Bridge DVD, and it has DTS. Is it Dutch?

Be warned this is a rental version from Blockbuster, but its 4:3, & Dolby Stereo! , some sites show the retail version as Widescreen and 5.1, others 4:3

4:3 is ridiculous, its been available in other countries with better spec, in France its 1.85:1 Anamorphic with English DTS 5.1 & French DTS 5.1

would there be two versions, rental and retail? that would be ridiculous, but they also must have paid to make this additional 4/3 master?

Not the same thing i can say about The Defender UK dvd wich is one of the best Dolph's dvd release. I've rewatched the movie last night after 3 years or something and i can say that the first half is the best effort of Dolph as a director until the last 20 minutes of Missionary Man, or at least i enjoy it more than i was expecting.

It is a possibility, DNC are a relatively new company, so they might not have decent quality control. I guess I'll try and get this and find out; 15 quid, but I'll take one for the boys

It shouldn't have any influence on this, totally their call/choice and their responsibility. It used to happen that they didn't produce any widescreen masters for the foreign distributors to use so if they wanted to use one they had to make it on their own. But that it's not the case here since at least 90% worldwide editions have been widescreen...

I think they just blew it and thought, well the audience for Dolph's "brainless actioners are brainless viewers who still think full screen is better". Or else they still live in the 90s...
