*sigh* .... *SIGH*

Haven't we heard that before? Isn't it just SAD how his good work suffers from a constant lack of money and time? Gosh. Can't they just ONCE again give him a bigger budget? *SIGH*

Maybe they learn from this one... a rental and selling success DESPITE all those restrictions. And if Rambo IV is a hit than they MIGHT see that spending some money on good old-style action can create a real good return on investment.

*sob*

Otherwise producers will always try to make money on his name making films the cheapest possible, because why wouldn't they?

*sigh*

I'll wait for the German release of MM, then I'll write a short review. Really busy right now, haven't even managed to rent The Inquiry.

I love this answer from the "Random Roles" interview:

UGO: Well, the movie's called Missionary Man. Are you a missionary man? Is that your favorite position?

DL:
Well, no not really, it's not my favorite position. In this particular movie, there's a biblical theme and that's where it comes from. Yeah, I know, I know. You've got a dirty mind. It's good kind of a test of personality of how people respond to that title.

Leaves me wondering which... ah.. never mind.

But in general it is a very good interview. Relaxed and with a couple of new questions.

And that part from the starpulse interview sounds just fantastic:

As you can tell, I like the bad guys. I do enjoy directing, but more so the actual behind the camera work than perhaps being in front of the camera these days. I'm working on a script now for me to play a heavy or a bad guy because I haven't done it for many years, 15 years actually, so it's time for me to get out there and be mean again. Hopefully I'll enjoy playing that role later this year.

LOL yeah that was witty, because even though most people thought about it, journalists probably shyed away from the question haha

Personally, I liked it. I think people wanted to see a throwback to the 80's action movie like Seagal did with Renegade Justice, and what they actually got was a throwback to the 70's action movies. So what you got was not only 70's grit, but also and most importantly, 70's pace. These days, you can't put genre films with the pace of, say, The Driver, or The Getaway, where there were punctuations of action, but a hell of a lot of the runtimes were filled with story and were character driven. But the general 00's action audience don't want that, they want Marked For Death 2 or another Cobra.Personally I love that 70's style. This isn't the first time that Dolph has dipped his toe in the 70's water, with stuff like Mechanik and Shooter, and those are his strongest films (IMHO). And now he's settled into his niche, I don't see Dolph returning to stuff like Detention and Agent Red again.

Detention

Postby njonesky102 on 15 Feb 2008, 02:05

Yeh I really liked Detention, not necessarily because of Dolph. I liked Alex Karzis, who player Chester Lamb. I thought he was brilliant and certainly very very funny. The only thing that I disliked about the film was the stupid way that the kids all became trained killers as well.

Bullz-eye provides us with the interview of the day, really good stuff again, with content and humor!

BE: You could be the next Van Damme.

DL: If I'm lucky. (laughs) Although I'd need to shrink about two feet!

Agree with every word the above poster said about Detention. Coulda done with more villains too but it had excellent pacing/twists etc.

If I'm being honest I was a little let down by Missionary Man, especially the finale. Its clear that the budget was very low indeed but there were some genuinely cool moments that Dolph managed to pull off really well, I just thought by the looks of the trailers etc before hand that the biker gang was bigger and the ending would be full of exploding cars and stuff getting smashed up, the original 2 minute long trailer had all the action in it. The thing is he just wasn't given enough budget, but was it not Nu Image that financed The Mechanik anyway and Sony were just the distributors? Nu Image seem to be very generous and despite a lot of people laughing at them with the right people they can produce brillaint films. As I said there were some very cool bits in Missionary Man and despite a weak ending I enjoyed it and the violence was good. A little too dark in places because you couldn't appreciate the colours used and see what was going on too well and the action scenes seemed to turn on and off at the blink of an eye, like at the end of a fight it would just cut away from it or after the main bad guy died it just flashed to the police mopping up Dolph's mess and Reno didn't die either the son of a bitch. GIVE DOLPH A BIGGER BUDGET NOW! Look what he can do with 2 million, so give him at least 5. Even in the late 90's he could demand a good few million. Thing is if Sony see he is selling well with 2 million, they'll continue to give him that 2 million and no more.

Is it HOT is it NOT? I can't say, in the middle..its WARM.

Yeah I doubt that he'll get a bad reputation regarding drug abuse and harassment of women.
