Can someone please not turn this thread into, a thread full of spoilers and Pictures and so on like in the JC forum, I don't want to see the opening scene, why the F$%# people keep posting this kinda shit, you might as well add the whole F#$%# movie, van damme fans couldn't contain themselves and they ruin it for alot of people with reviews and spoilers and tons of stills from the movie even someone posted the website to go see the movie for free.

Alot of non fans aren't going to rent the movie anymore, everyone knows it's out and there is still a month to go. Alot of non fans were interested in this movie and were willing to rent it, to see it and now look what they have done. They don't blame themselves, they blaming other Sony, if you know about it shut your mouths, and keep it to yourselves.

I mean honestly and in the end some of them who were crying for years regarding not enough action, now are complaining there is too much action and no story or characters to care for, give me a break what the hell are they expecting from The Expendables a work of ART, it will be another brainless movie.

The JCVD board is a mad house (and especially since the movie leaked), it's interesting to see we have a totally different crowd here, who know how to behave, and I'm glad.

Well i hope you are right Jox, i hope everyone here can control themselves i mean i know everyone is eager to post the first review and so on, but it's to early to do that, i don't want to read or see any more stills from the movie, if i want to see the movie i can and then post it here, but i'm not like that, i very much want to see the movie, but everytime someone adds another clip from the movie it's only telling more about the movie, in the end you pretty much know about the movie, even though i haven't watched it.

We take after our heroes. JCVD is a pretty crazy guy, whereas Dolph is calm and collected. Plus, this is a small forum. And it was, until quite recently, a total dictatorship. But not anymore (balance is the key). It is now a very good fan forum.

Personally I'm not going to be downloading this movie. I'm gonna wait, patiently, to see the old boys battle it out one more time. Even though, I', guessing, the Dolphanero is going to lose (again).

I've seen it today. My first movie of 2010. Very good, very violent, very unique, different and strange:) The action scenes are great, Dolph is really cool, JC is very well directed, the music is perfect, one of the best DTVs ever. So bad Dolph didn't have more screen time!

Story behind Van Damme's involvement in US: Regeneration?

Postby savagesketch on 04 Jan 2010, 04:19

Okay, so it's clear that Van Damme filmed his scenes in 15 days, while Dolph filmed his in only 5... Dolph's role was nothing more than an extended cameo, but I know that there was something that went on behind the scenes with Van Damme... Almost like he didn't want to do the movie and was obligated. I've also heard that he only did the film so that he wouldn't get sued, which are some of the reasons for his limited screen time... Can anyone please provide any truth to this at all?? Or if anything, help explain Van Damme's involvement, why he was only able to commit to merely two weeks, etc.??

I've seen the film, and it's great, but I'm dying to get the full story that explains what went on i the pre-production phases with Jean-Claude. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!!

Van Damme was set up to do a film with the same producers from US3 set in the world of mixed-martial arts titled THE SMASHING MACHINE. Close to production on that one Van Damme backed out. Since the producers also had the rights to the US franchise the story goes they basically said he had to do US3 or he'd be sued. How they negotiated the number of days Van Damme would work on the film is anyone's guess.

In terms of Dolph, seemed like he wanted no part of US3 at all mainly because he was busy getting things set for ICARUS, not to mention having THE EXPENDABLES on the horizon as well. Sounds like it was after he met with John Hyams and the script was tweaked to his liking that he agreed to film for his 5 days.

Be interesting to see if Hyams delves into this sort of stuff on the commentary for US3. I'm guessing not, judging by his interviews he seems like the sort of guy who tries to keep a positive spin on things and does his best with the material (and actors) he's given to work with.

First and foremost because he didn't like the original script that he felt was very bad and was not enthused by the first attached director(s). The producers had already been pursuing after JC and Dolph for quite some time when it finally went into production. That's only one part of the story.

EDIT:
January 28th in Singapore theaters

Van Damme has had a fairly long relationship with Sony, as they are the ones who've been primarily releasing his DTV films since 2000. For Van Damme to back out of The Smashing Machine so close to production, the film must have been pretty bad... Wonder what it would have looked like...

He doesn't really have a relationship with Sony, Sony picks up his titles for distribution that's all. It's producer Moshe Diamant that JC walked away (for no valid reason I think) from with THE SMASHING MACHINE. Sony wanted to do a DTV sequel to UNIVERSAL SOLDIER for a while and by hiring Diamant to produce it they knew he could get them JCVD to finally sign up for it. The interesting thing is John Hyams directed the documentary about MMA fighters called THE SMASHING MACHINE.
