From director Patrick Hughes:
I do recall my direction to Sly in this scene was: "Show me the face of a reveler after a three day bender at Burning Man." #EX3

The Rock:
"Hey Rock
Will you play in a Sylvester Stallone movie? Co-starring Terry Crews?

If you're asking if I would consider being in the EXPENDABLES franchise - then the answer is yes. BUT.. I don't want to be on their team and be buddies with them. F*ck that noise. I want to hunt every single one of them down and tell them to "send your soul to heaven cause your ass is mine." Rousey lives cause she'd be my characters training partner and Crews lives as well cause my character would need someone to compete at pec popping with"

Soooo I wonder how sly, lionsgate are feeling about the movie being pirated around now online... potential disaster in the making! Won't stop me from seeing it in the theaters though and I imagine it will be the same for many... but I wouldn't want to be the guy who gets caught!

It's really bad for the film I think. It's also a DVD quality rip too, not a shitty camcorder job, which might entice more people to watch it, particularly a lot of on the fence people waiting to see what the word is on the film.

In terms of box office too, Expendables 3 is a bit of an enigma. The second didn't do well as expected domestically, but made up for that with superb international numbers, beating the first. But that was two years ago and the box office appeal for virtually every cast member individually is somewhere between low, to none. All the "big" stars like Arnie, Sly, Gibson, Ford for example have all had recent flops on films they've headlined.
Exp 3 is a film that really needs a strong opening weekend. Even if this leaked screener only effected it with a 5 million dollar knockoff it's potential, that could be the difference between an acceptable weekend, or one that's not quite good enough. It could mean the difference between being number 1, or number 2 in the charts.
Plus long term potential. If that DVD remains out there (which it will because you just cannot plug the leak entirely), the drop offs week by week could be bigger.

I've been feeling like the numbers on this film could go either way. It's either gonna be disappointing or it's going to be acceptable. Something like this happening makes me lean toward the former.
And what many of the sharers and watchers of this screener don't think of, especially the genuine fans who love the franchise, is that they could be contributing toward there not being a fourth instalment.

Who cares about a 4th movie (I don't - 3 is enough), it's a whole industry we're talking about, with thousands of people depending on it to pay the rent and are not wealthy at all unlike what people seem to think about anybody working in the movie industry... all that for bitching brats who shit on it and shoot themselves in the foot at the same time (because they shoot the potential future of movies to be green-lit and made, and action movies, DTV are first in the line victims from it).

It's frustrating but it's part and parcel of the modern era and the internet. It's just too big to police. What's really bad though is a case like this where someone in a paid position who has access to a DVD screener, has decided to share it. It could well have been someone involved in making the film, or more likely a distributor. They should know better. They could in some small part, whoever did it, be contributing to them losing their job, or not getting as much work. Whatever field they're in, their contributing to a problem for an industry that in many areas, is in decline.
Even my friend who directed a low budget documentary in the UK, totally self funded, suffered from piracy. It severely affected his sales. And it proved, for what it was, and its subject, a very popular and well received docu, but many of those who watched it, did so illegally. Likewise it found its way stateside, effectively making it very difficult for him to sell it for US distribution, or see much point in doing it.

Yeah some people won't care about a 4th. But many of the people streaming or downloading the pirate will. Personally, though I think 3 is a good time to end, I'd like a fourth, purely as it's literally the only chance of seeing a D film on the big screen in the UK, short of the odd cult screening of Rocky 4 or Masters in London.

The timing of this sucks for Exp 3. 3 weeks before release and a DVD rip is spreading like wildfire. Plus, if the reaction and buzz isn't great, it kills the opening weekend. Every new release gets pirated of course, it's a major problem. By the time the first showing has screened, some asshole has put a camcorder, or phone recording up online and it spreads. Some may choose to watch a piss poor depiction like that. Unfortunately, an opportunity like this, 3 wks early, and DVD quality is going to be too much to resist for some. Fans of all these guys need to ignore it because there's a knock on effect. Sly, Arnold etc can't afford many more flops. Maybe a new Conan doesn't get made, or a new Rambo. Okay they're probably going to suck, but many want them to happen.
