If there is ever a 4th film they need to drop the light hearted tone. I can't really get into the trailers for this 3rd film based on that issue. The 2nd film was probably way campier than this but I actually thought the trailers were way better tonaly.

I've probably said this a hundred times on here but sly needs to stop rewriting these films and let someone else give it a go and just stick to that story.

'I felt the first film was closest to what I hoped the series would be but the writing was a big letdown. I wish the expendables had gone the dirty dozen route from the beginning and just been a gritty, unapologetic, hard nosed action/adventure film. The dirty dozen still had moments of humor but it "fit" within the story they were telling rather than it be a drawback and cringeworthy ala the expendables.

With all the crap going on around the world today you'd think it would be easy to cherry pick any of those stories as a setting for the expendables. Rather than fighting in some random warehouse/torn up village in a made up eastern bloc country over and over again.

- Lionsgate Sues Over 'Expendables 3' Leak
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr-es ... eak-722806
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/sites/ ... suit_a.pdf

http://variety.com/2014/digital/news/li ... 201273600/
The studio says it learned on July 24 that a copy of the action film had been stolen.

Lionsgate is taking legal action against the anonymous individuals who shared online an advance copy of The Expendables 3, starring Sylvester Stallone.

On Thursday, the film company filed a lawsuit in California federal court against "John Does 1-10."

Read the Complaint Here

Lionsgate reports learning on July 24 that a digital file containing a high-quality reproduction of the film had been stolen and uploaded to the Internet. The Expendables 3 has reportedly crossed more than a million downloads already. All of the copies circulating online are said in the lawsuit to be traced to the original stolen digital file.

The lawsuit targets the operators behind limetorrents.com, billionuploads.com, hulfile.eu, played.to, swantshare.com and dotsemper.com and uses language that's similar to past mass "Doe" complaints against torrent users.

According to the lawsuit, "By downloading one of these 'torrent' files associated with the Stolen Film from <limetorrents.com>, users join a 'swarm' where they download parts of the Stolen Film from many different users and also upload to other users parts of the Stolen Film they have already received, until eventually they have reproduced the entire Stolen Film on their own hard drives and in most cases have also uploaded all or a substantial part of the Stolen Film to others."

Lionsgate sent demand letters to operators of the torrent sites. For instance, the studio contacted hulkfile every day between July 26 and July 31 — an indication of just how seriously concerned the studio is to see its movie leak in advance of a Aug. 15 release. The operators of the sites didn't respond to demand letters, says the lawsuit.

The plaintiff is demanding a temporary restraining order and injunctions that prohibit the anonymous operators of the sites from hosting, linking to, distributing, reproducing, performing, selling or making available copies of Expendables 3. The film company also wants to stop the defendants from taking action that "induces, causes or materially contributes to" direct copyright infringement of its work.

But the demands go much further: The requested injunction also seeks to have the defendants prohibited from "operating any of the websites" and ordered to "take all steps necessary to recall and recover all copies of the Stolen Film or any portion thereof that they have distributed." Additionally, Lionsgate is looking to prevent defendants from transferring their assets and circumventing the court orders. The plaintiff wants registry operators to place the domain names on "locked" status.

Additionally, the ISPs that are providing hosting and cloud storage as well as the banks and financial institutions servicing the torrent sites are also under the eye of the film company. Subpoenas could be issued soon.
Lionsgate is being represented by Dennis Wilson at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton.

Expendables 3 is produced by Nu Image, which notably was one of the first companies to go after torrent users. Three years ago, Nu Image targeted 23,322 alleged online pirates of the original The Expendables, but ran into problems when a federal judge in Washington, D.C., questioned jurisdiction. In 2012, the company later brought other copyright infringement lawsuits over the film around the country, but has been fairly quiet on the piracy hunt since then.

The identity, and motivation of, the individual who first uploaded Expendables 3 hasn't been revealed.

- The US soundtrack edition by La-La Land seems it'll have a different cover than the European Silva Screen release... or not since they say it's not final:

I can't believe one of the people quoted in that article, a journalist, actually openly admitted that he downloaded and watched it??? It's ridiculous. Furthermore he suggests the leak can be good for the film, which is wrong.
The thing is, if the leak happens and the word of mouth is incredibly good, it might not hurt the film. It won't help it much, but it won't damage it that much. In the Expendables 3's case, the word of mouth is not good at all so I would expect the B.O to take a hit. The film may still prove successful financially (and undoubtedly will internationally) and could open stronger than the first two because of the rating (though I doubt it) but even if it opens to 40 million dollars, the leak might have held it back from hitting 50 for example.

I also find it strange it's taken so long for Lionsgate to publically announce their intention to sue the torrent companies (good).

Also have to say, I'm friends on Facebook with a director who specialises in low budget action films. He's in a genre, in a field, and he's seen the effects first hand in trying to get his films distributed, but he's openly admitted he's watched Expendables 3. What a fucking idiot. The next time he can't get a film funded because his last film grossed less than expected thanks to piracy, he'll have no right to complain.

Because they can't announce it before it's concrete and they' have all they need to sue and legal procedures can be heavy, it's actually short I think but it seems the sources were not hard to track down.

I'm wondering is how much Nu Image/ Millennium got from the foreign pre-sales. There used to be a time when pre-sales covered their costs before filming (then on a low budget, if they got $6 million in pre-sales they would make the movie for 3 or 4 million etc. Not sure that applies nowadays and on a big budget like EX3)...

UPDATE: Feds Take Up ‘Expendables 3′ Leak Probe After Lionsgate Files Lawsuit
http://www.deadline.com/2014/08/the-exp ... el-gibson/
A federal investigation has been opened into the source of the illegal downloads of Lionsgate action pic The Expendables 3, according to sources with knowledge of the matter. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement, aka ICE, has picked up the case after Lionsgate made calls to several law-enforcement agencies to ask for help in locating the pirates, who are accused of leaking a full version of the pic on various file-sharing sites last week. you would U.S. Customs was merged into USDHS, and it investigates illegally distributed copyrighted materials, including media content. In the past it has actually seized domain names of websites used to illegally distribute media content and/or counterfeit goods. Said an ICE public affairs officer this afternoon, “It is our policy to neither confirm or deny that an investigation is underway, unless or until it results in some type of public enforcement action.”

It comes the same day Lionsgate filed suit against the sites hosting the pic and the same day it dropped the final trailer (see it below) that opens wide August 15.

Lionsgate found out about the theft of a single digital copy last Friday, according to the suit, with news of the download surfacing wide by the time Comic-Con was in full swing last weekend. We’re told there were 250,000 downloads on that first day, and Variety reports piracy-tracking firm Excipio says there have been 2 million downloads to date.

In the suit, the studio names file-sharing sites Limetorrents.com, Billionuploads.com, Hulkfile.eu, Played.to, Swantshare.com and Dotsemper.com and claims it sent several letters to each site demanding the movie be removed. It demands a temporary restraining order, a preliminary injunction and a permanent injunction as well as actual and statutory damages. The first two installments of the franchise have grossed $580M worldwide.

It would certainly be good if they can identify and track down where the leak came from and who let it slip out. It surely has to be someone involved with the production or the distribution, who have put their own job, and others at risk. Hopefully they get punished.

Hopefully they will get whoever leaked the film and punish them. Thats not really on, and as said before its messing with peoples livelyhood. Just pay the ******* money and watch it in a cinema, its a much better experience.
If you are that tight, just buy a used copy of the DVD from ebay.

Piracy is affecting direct to video already. The director of the Undisputed trilogy put up a message on the board asking people to stop downloading the films. If they don;t make enough money, the 4th movie doesn't get made.
The other issue I have is film companies etc need to make more titles available online (through streaming perhaps), and to charge less for direct to video films, it could possibly open up a wider auidence and make money maybe? I don't know the answer, but something needs to be done.
Is there an off switch to your mouth?
