Right now I could pull the angry fanboy bitching "oh that's just 4 more months for Avi Lerner to chew up the blood and violence" if you'd like? But that's just me getting angry over the wait.
"I come in peace!"
"But you go in pieces, a**hole!"

*SIGH*

I also never understand those "summer blockbusters". Now that we have the good thing that big movies start at the same time over here than they do in the U.S. (it only took a couple of decades and a copying mob to quickly persuade the industry that it is indeed feasible) we also have the bad thing that we get the best movies during the summer when it's really much nicer to spend time in the garden or other outdoor places. April would have been so much better:
a) obviously much earlier
b) higher chance of bad weather = good time for the cinema

It's much different in the US than in Europe and it's big deal if a movie opens over there in the summer. They don't care about the nice weather as much as we do, and the kids are out of school so it's the time of year they go to the movies the most!

It looks like the latter part of next summer has relatively few big releases so TE might do better than an early release in April followed a couple of weeks later by titles like 'Iron Man' which are going to cannibalise TE's audience. The new release date is currently completely empty of big name alternatives and it capitalises on the Labor Day holiday in the US.

Of course there is a possibility TE *needs* more time to get it right. Slipping it gives more time for editing and audience testing and any reshoots that are needed to make it perfect.

Release date changed to late Summer August 20th, much better than April 23rd.

Honestly I think it doesn't change much in the case of TE whether it's April or August so it's just gossip BS and the movie will certainly be completed long before that with even maybe a screening at the Cannes festival (even though it's not their cup of tea)...

Brian Tyler confirms doing the score.

Hm, never been to that festival. Is it open to the public? I haven't been to Cannes in decades, would be the perfect occasion and might even be worth it if I get to see the Expendables months before the release. ;-)

How many decades? Five? Eight?

It WOULD be ballsy to show The Expendables at the Cannes Film Festival.

It's fairly common to show big movies out of competition at Cannes. It's the first big opportunity of the year to show summer movies at a high profile event; and it's an invaluable publicity opportunity - few other film festivals attract a tenth as many journalists, so companies will try and get their stars to do as many interviews as possible whilst they have all the press in one place.

Not the official screenings. If TE is shown, even out of the competition, it's not gonna be public.

The "ballsy" aspect of showing The Expendables at Cannes would be that the film might not be your typical festival fare and could, therefor, receive quite a negative reception.

However, publicity is publicity is publicity.

(is publicity)

BTW; Thanks for explaining how a film festival works. :|

They had an off-competition world premiere of Sly's CLIFFHANGER at Cannes in 1993 (coupled with an AIDS charity event by Liz Taylor).

Wasn't US shown at Cannes or did Big D just go along for the fight? ;)

Oh I wouldn't worry about the negative reception putting the makers off - TE's going to get an APPALLING reaction from critics no matter how good it turns out to be. Even now they're looking in their thesauruses for synonyms for 'past-it', 'has-beens' and 'throw backs' because the reviews are half written.

The climax of 'Armaggedon' was unveiled at Cannes before release and the assembled critics laughed all the way through the scene where Bruce Willis says goodbye to his daughter. The comments were atrocious, the word-of-mouth was unspeakable, in short, it was mauled. But that didn't stop it going on to make an obscene amount of money, or indeed stop Michael Bay making movies - although it might have been a good thing if it had ;)

No Dolph and JCVD were there to do promo interviews but nothing was shown and that's the reason the improvised brawl on the red carpet came up.
