I agree... they could have used that portion of the budget in much better ways. Waste of extra money nd shooting time if you ask me.

- The review is bad for the film in general so it's not gonna get better for the 3D.

- I haven't seen it personally but a trust-worthy friend of mine who's a shy member here but a huge fan saw both the 2D (at Paris festival) and 3D versions and thought the 3D was very good and very well used here and almost made the film even better.

- As far budget and time use, yeah for sure, it could have been use more wisely without 3D. It was a decision from the producers who forced it on Hyams but considering he managed it extremely well then!

Ultimately then Universal Soldier: Day Of Reckoning succeeds in being a violent action film with a unique structure for the genre. In truth, this film only really deserves 3/5 purely on its own merits. It is slow paced to start and a dull lead does not help one iota. Yet the fact that John Hyams has pulled a straight-to-DVD franchise in a new direction – whilst maintaining a continuity with the original film – for the second time deserves some wider acknowledgement.

All of the filmmakers concerned are putting in far more effort than was required for this series. Even if this singular entry is weaker than the last one and nowhere near as much fun as the first film, for its sheer effort Day Of Reckoning deserves to be respected.

Rating: 4 stars

Watching this on a proper TV instead of online... it all seems to hang together far better. I feel I was a little too critial first time around... this really works...
