As you say, interesting, though nothing much new here.
I guess that this has been occasioned by the Netflix/Kevin Smith animation
Masters of the Universe Revelation. If anyone was thinking of following this recent offering up then don't bother - it's APPALLINGLY bad!!! Absolutely dreadful in every way - apart from the artwork, which is quite good - but let down by jaw-droppingly inept plotting, characterisation and outright twisted narrative intent. The reaction of outraged fans is - in my view - wholly justified. It's earned itself the nickname '
Devastation' and an overwhelmingly negative reaction - apart from a handful of critics who were very much on message with its essentially feminist and anti-heroic message. It has all the charm and charisma of modern politicised Hollywood (ie none) and is - at best - a completely wasted opportunity for the property.
However, it's an ill wind that blows no-one any good - as the saying is: one widespread reaction is that this illiterate disaster has made a great many people re-evaluate the 1987 film in a much more positive light.
As one reviewer put it:
"Having seen Smith's handling of MOTU, I now appreciate the Goddard movie more than ever before and am glad that something positive has come out of this debacle. Come back, He-Man Dolph Lundgren - all is forgiven!"
