Never-seen interview with Dolph and William Gibson, recorded in May 1994 at Cannes but aired 18 months later in 1995 in the Australian SBS "Movie Show"

Good movie but.. they should develop more interaction between Dolph and Keanu- a some good fight between them especially during the final could be nice ( like in Unisol but not that long sequence), and another small fights during the movie where Keanu always escape. Dolph has this Evil Character but doesn't have too much stuff to do...
What is your opinion Jox regarding The Preacher and Johnny relation thru the movie ?

Watched this for the first time a while ago and was rather disappointed with Dolph's small role but despite that it was definitely enjoyable. I believe the Unrated version (only released in Japan?) has a few more 'Preacher' moments tho :D

I think part of the appeal for Dolph back then was to play a colourful character who wasn't really an "action guy".

I never really thought of it in those terms so I don't have a strong opinion about that from the top of my head...

By the way, in the original William Gibson short story, the nemesis was the character of the not yet called Shinji, who sort of has a more secondary role here. Street Preacher was added for the screenplay.

Yes, he has an additional monologue scene, a couple of alternate lines of dialogue and some additional shots towards the end when he fights Jane / Dina Meyer.

Even though the Japanese release version is not Robert Longo's "director's cut", it's darker, has a different "industrial rock" score, and makes a bit more sense.

After my comment i quickly looked up if this version has been released outside of Japan and it has! The Japanese cut (in SD with English subs for the Japanese parts) is added as a bonus feature on the recent German blu-ray releases from Turbine.

Yes indeed, and it includes other good extras such as an audio commentary with Longo, and the complete Brad Fiedel isolated score track, plus vintage featurettes and interviews...

Reminded that the original JM short story is 40 years old...

Shooting commentary to accompany the release of Johnny Mnemonic in Black & White was no mean feat, given the participants- director, Robert Longo, actor, Keanu Reeves and screenwriter, William Gibson were in three different countries, in three different time zones. What to do but to Zoom! Stay tuned for details on release date.
