Dolph really doesn't seem to regard Punisher very highly... has he ever said why?

Not really, it was his very role back then, later he said he was disappointed in the final product and thought they didn't put enough time and money into everything - the story, the picture's look. He also seems to overlook at it due to the fact it's based on a comic book (are fan boys annoying him? does he find stupid the geek pop culture).

That's a very good question.

It seems he has very little understanding of that aspect of the movie culture. He really doesn't get the comic book thing or sword and sorcery etc. and he doesn't seem to embrace the movie geek culture as much as, say Stallone does.

I get the feeling that he doesn't stay very up to date with what's going on in his industry. He's old school. A bit like my dad.

He's still Dolph "fckng" Lundgren though, so I forgive him.
Spring, era jävlar!

That's exactly what it is, and especially coming from outgoing Americans it can be misinterpreted (not mention it can be even more particular when you're working on a movie set playing a deranged character), but with a few exceptions I've rarely anything else than how friendly and pleasant he is.

Also from what I've heard there are a lot of not so bright people in that industry and they often perceive intelligent people as arrogant. Rollins doesn't seem to be one of those people though, judging from what he does. ;)

Here is the making of with additional "B-roll" behind the scenes footage (like the hospital scene with Street Preacher)

(from the Swedish edition which has more special features - Japanese Blu-ray has the same)

And here's Dolph EPK interview:

I always find it fascinating that, almost twenty years after release, there are still things about these films being found that we've never seen before...

Simply because for publicity choices and approval reasons, they never release all the material (hundreds of stills per production) shot and available... Apparently these come directly from the still photographer himself.

Other WTF news of the day: 20 years later, JM producer Peter Hoffman's Seven Arts Entertainment (also behind Vincenzo Natali's upcoming adaptation of William Gibson's NEUROMANCER) associates with Prodigy Pictures to produce a JOHNNY MNEMONIC TV series...

They hired some writers from the STARGATE TV-series.

Henry Rollins bashes Dolph again...
Rollins reveals Dolph Lundgren made it clear he wasn't planning on being pleasant to anyone when he teamed up with the former Black Flag frontman and Keanu Reeves on 1995's Johnny Mnemonic.

He explains, "That was one unpleasant acting experience. I'm a polite person and I'm like, 'Hey Dolph, I'm Henry, we're working together,' and he's like, 'Yeah...?' and I was like, 'OK, I'll just go back to my trailer.'

"Keanu Reeves was really nice, but Dolph not so much. I saw him six months later when we were doing promotion for the movie and I thought, 'Maybe he'll be friendlier,' but he hadn't thawed out yet."

I thought I did post this but apparently not:
Top 10 Famously Limited (Bad) Actors Who Can Actually Act

4. Dolph Lundgren – Johnny Mnemonic

If this film is “famous” at all, it’s a famous flop. Famous for being a crap movie, made from a terrible script, featuring lots of awful acting. This is one of the films that really cemented Keanu Reeves’ reputation as a walking plank with a perpetual “whoa, dude” demeanor, and he doesn’t get a heck of a lot of help from the rest of the cast, either. Or the director, or the writer, or even the key grip.

In the middle of all the crap, Dolph Lundgren turns up and actually acts his ass off, playing a wild-eyed crazy with total commitment, and deviating completely from his usual ass-kicking-machine-made-of-stone roles. Nearly every (universally scathing) review of the film singled out Lundgren’s performance as being far and away the best thing about the film.

The still above is from the deleted scenes, part of it being in the Japanese cut.

Very nice. I hope many influential people read that. And it's about time to watch that movie again. May the rest of the world think it's crap. I think it's a really good Cyberpunk movie. But I've said that before a couple of times. Sorry. Can't repeat it often enough.
