There is still no word on I COME IN PEACE coming to DVD in North America. The best option for that one on disc is the Region 2 version where it has the generic title of DARK ANGEL.

Honestly, I sort of hope RETROGRADE never gets released in North America. In my mind Lundgren has gotten a little bit of respectability from THE DEFENDER and THE RUSSIAN SPECIALIST and I'd hate to see that hurt by RETROGRADE.

That poster is just so bad. It looks fan-made. It has none of the finish of a professional poster. The worst poster ever for a professional film.
Did someone get paid to do this?
The thing is; the russian cover/poster for Retrograde looks very good. Why not use that one all over the world?

Saw the movie the other day btw. Nice effort, but lame dialouge, bad acting and the low budget ruins much of it. I don´t mind the special effects but the set looks small, and crowded wich damgages the look of the entire film.
And why the under-use of Gary Daniels. The man can fight and he isnt half a bad of an actor. With him as the main villian (as Gary himself has claimed was the intention from the start) the endfight in the snow could have been so cool.
I kind of like the story though and there where good scenes in there. The director needs practice, a better budget and a new cinematographer and he could acctually pull of something cool.

Saw Retrograde finally

Postby Travis on 21 May 2006, 09:21

I bought in the Philippines on on a pirated DVD titled "The Dolph Lundgren Collection." It had 8 of his films including Fat Slags.

Retrograde wasn't so bad. At least he looked cool in it.
The Last Patrol and Detention were far worse.

It's about on the same level of awful as THE LAST WARRIOR (Last Patrol). I dislike RETROGRADE even more now because I've seen a few Gary Daniels films lately and the fact that he doesn't really have any good fight scenes in RETROGRADE, especially with Lundgren, makes the film look all the worse.

The thing is with Retrograde is that the producers didn't care and slaughtered the picture to have it done as quickly as possible: the director was given only 18 days to shoot, 2 & 1/2 weeks to edit it and 1 day to mix the sound for the entire film. The production company (Carousel Picture) did their own cut, and it was so bad that when Franchise Pictures (distributor) saw it, they made another cut that is the one released. But according to the director's own words (he eventually made his own director's cut later, but that has no chance to be released), the movie was even worse than what we've got, and he's not the one to blame for.

you know I think it's just a mock-up that the director did himself, it's not official...

R2 German Retrograde: Krieg Auf Dem Eisplaneten

Postby BrunnenMatt on 12 Jun 2006, 01:43

I notice Germany are releasing this title on the 14th June, early specs list a 16:9 transfer, English Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track, Extras are Trailers. It is rated FSK 16, Specs to T.B.C.

So how are the others in the audio department? Might get this release if it includes a DD5.1 track. Thanks Jox on the Japanese release details :D.

Down in Australia all his films only get a 4:3 transfer and English Dolby Digital 2.0 audio track :(. His last movie The Mechanik lists a 16:9 transfer I beleive.

...BMatt

UPDATE: Updated On-line shop specs, early DVD sites listed an English DTS 5.1 track would be included, but this looks to be an error now :(.

Received an email also from an on-line store telling me that "Unfortunately we won’t get this dvd as the german audio is out of sync". I wonder how the English track is then!

I saw it yesterday and I think it's not bad. The story was interesting and told in an entertaining way. One very bad thing: the space ship looked as if they had about 1,000$ budget for the design and creation. Another 500$ for the f/x of the "exploding" helicopter. Argh! But this movie was a thousand times better than the dreadful Last Warrior!

It has a US distributor but it's probably sitting on the back of their shelf, it'll probably come out when they don't have anything else to release...
