An exemple of how the movie was re-edited that I missed all these years:

the yakuza who breaks his neck, then reappears (with even close ups) out of the blue in the decapitation scene as one of the goons watching, which was happening before the "breakfast" sequence and after the training montage (replaced near the end in the final cut) in the shooting script...

Watched this again the other day, and I still get a kick out of it, especially at many of the unintentional bloopers. The editing is a big misstep on Warner's behalf (as noted by Jox), but there are plenty of other goofs that are quite obvious, even to the discerning eye: The dummy getting crushed in the car, Yoshita's tattoos smearing off as he's getting out of the hot tub, and my personal favorite.... The henchman's arm magically coming up to brace himself as he's being laid down after having his neck broken by Dolph.

How rushed was this production where this wasn't noticed upon initial shooting?

Wow, I've seen it countless times but never noticed all this (apart from the dummy), you've really looked closely! I must say watching for goofs isn't my thing, and this movie is so fast-paced, you mostly get a kick out of it no matter what...

But maybe that will answer your observations: one thing Mark Lester told me when I interviewed him is that the script supervisor (who's mostly in charge of the continuity among other things) was in his own words "a horrible person", and as a very "union" person she would try to get the crew to strike or things like that so indeed she probably didn't focus on her job at all...
(and the shooting schedule was a standard 8 weeks or something so it wasn't rushed per say in that sense)
And she's actually the mother of one of today's biggest stars who was then barely 10 months old or something and was probably brought to set with her sometimes...

Even though SHOWDOWN IN LITTLE TOKYO first came out in late August 1991 in the States, everywhere else it was also released 25 years ago in the Spring / Summer 1992...

Apparently SHOWDOWN was referenced a second time after Dolph's guest appearance in the "Workaholics" show:

The final "kiai" on the jumped sidekick was removed from the French version (as well as most Japanese dialogues from Dolph which were translated in French)...
