Hmm... Did not know the game was already completed and was merely packaged with the UniSol name. Guess that's not too different from many DTV sequels that are in-name only. In the end though, the UniSol name is what helps distinguish it from so many other games. It's extremely generic, not to mention fairly boring.

Stuart Land on the US truck:
I was brought in on Universal Soldier to transpose the conceptual painting and the blueprints of the military laboratory on wheels into a workable sculpture, then organize, hire and construct two identical big rig trucks, one as the actual working prop, the other as the stunt truck. I spent a conciderable amount of time breaking down the blueprints and painting so I could make all the pieces which would be attached to real trucks come together like a giant model kit. I hired finish carpenters to make forms for all the side and rear panels, while I sculpted the top of the cab and all the little attachements from 2 lb. urethane foam.

Next a crew of on-site fiberglass experts was brought in to cover all the parts I sculpted, then dig out the foam leaving just a fiberglass shell. I had an outside company make all the panels.

The two trucks had to have 2 inch square steel tubing welded around it, like a cage, to hold the fiberglass panels. The actual working prop truck had to have both sides expand outwards in three, twelve foot sections on each side. They had to be able to open and close without breaking the fiberglass and seal perfectly every time. To do this, every measurement had to be exactly on mark. Unfortunately, the first truck ran into some problems when the frame sections were welded into place and each section was a quarter to half in off over every four foot span, so at the end of the truck, the frame was sticking out six or eight inches. It drove the welders crazy getting everything lined up, but eventually they managed it and all the mechanical features and fiberglass fit and worked perfectly.

Wasn't UNIVERSAL SOLDIER like the first EXPENDABLES? The final EX2 poster, somewhat similar to the US one (teaser and international), reminded me how giddy I was 20 years ago, waiting for US to come out, and because Sly and Arnold had never done this before, the duel of titans opposing Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme was making action fans jazzed ever since the project was announced (in 1990)...!

Is there a definite answer as to whether or not Dolph and JC got along on set? I've read differing things, even from Dolph himself who admitted that there were some big egos on set... Dolph seems to have a better relationship with Sly. There doesn't seem be as much friendliness between Dolph and Jc... Maybe I'm wrong though...

No they got along well (if not great), Van Damme was already kind of a diva that's all. One thing I heard though but can't confirm is that Jean-Claude put his nose into the editing especially for the final fight (like he did on BLOODSPORT and CYBORG) and that Dolph didn't like it (need confirmation though), there's even an article saying that's where the Cannes stunt originated from...

I wonder if Dolph ever got annoyed with any JCVD cokehead antics. I am sure D is too classy of guy to say anything about that though.

Personally, I don't think they got on.
The Cannes stunt was funny, Dolph actually looked like he did want to hit him!
Is there an off switch to your mouth?

JC and Dolph get along great and have fun around each other, I could tell when I hanged out at the EX2 Paris junket. JC is like a clown kid whenever he sees Dolph who's very much amused by him.

That said, and regarding the 92 Cannes publicity stunt, I had read that Dolph wasn't happy about JCVD's re-cut of the final fight and that would be the argument that got JC the idea of the stunt but I didn't get to verify that fact yet tough, so take it with a pinch of salt.
