What did Roland tried to say about " they are like robots'' ? That JC and Dolph acting in movies wasn't good enough. Dolph nailed his role and is more memorable than JC role. If Dolph was nuts, JC was kind of unsecure and childish in some way during the entire movie. It was a good contrast.

Director’s Reel: Roland Emmerich revels in destruction, from ‘Independence Day’ to ‘Day After Tomorrow’ to ‘Moonfall’
https://news.yahoo.com/video/director-r ... 09532.html

Video Transcript
ROLAND EMMERICH: You know they like said, it's-- we take care of that. Jean-Claude, he said, like, don't hit him that hard, and he's, doesn't like it.

[SMASH]

- Is that intimidating-- telling Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme what to do for however many months on the set?

ROLAND EMMERICH: Even worse, I had to tell Dolph Lundgren that he would play the bad guy. We changed the script quite a lot. So we walked into Dolph Lundgren. And said, like, I think we have to get this more conflict, and because of that, you have to-- you play the bad guy. But he was very-- he was fine with it.

Admin can u clear us regarding the original idea of Universal Soldier before Roland came on board ? If he said that he actually made Dolph the villain then who supposed to the the bad guy before that (during Davis involvement or even earlier script) ? Were JC and Dolph like sidekicks or what who have a common villain corporation or some ? I saw that muppet with Dolph head from early stage production and I came to idea that they counted more on Dolph character that JC as the lead ?

I will really want to see those extended scenes with Unisols at the Hoover Dumb, when JC DL jump from the helicopter and are in the water (seen in the BTS material),extended mall monologue speech of Dolph at the store frightening woman with the kids about Vietnam, the extended scene of Dplth when he pulls the guy from the leg taking his belt - they were cut extremely short (for pacing I guess) but they could left something more. 106 minutes runtime of Unisol 1 (1992) could be ideal, a full 100 minutes (instead of 98) before the end credits roll.

I don't know why Emmerich said, or maybe he doesn't remember that Lundgren was always meant to be the villain since they initially attached the two rising action stars to the project (late 1989). The project goes back even before JC, Dolph or even Andrew Davis got signed, but I'll keep the details under wrap for another project.

Strange enough I listened interview with Sheldon Lettich where he mentioned that originally for Double Impact (1991) studio wanted Dolph Lundgren to play one of the brothers but Van Damme didn't want to realize this idea.
Admin is this a myth or truth if u ever heard of this ?

It's a recent claim from Van Damme which Sheldon Lettich completely debunked on VDF:
Never heard that, and I don't believe a word of it. It was always Van Damme playing both brothers. Always. What's true in that interview, however, is that the production company, Stone Group, was trying to siphon money away from our budget to give to their other movie, "Stone Cold."

JCVD likes fairy tales then. Thank u Jox . People could imagine brutal Alex played by Dolph but that is not the case... I would like to see Boaz Yakin, a friend of Sheldon speaking on Viking Samuai any soon talking about DL or even DL on skype

Isn't that GeekGab? If so, expect it to be fake. Although a Best Buy exclusive steelbook doesn't seem out of the realm, that account has zero reliability.
