UNIVERSAL SOLDIER (Roland Emmerich, 1992)

Postby Jox on 21 May 2004, 12:34

Hey great news, I jus got an email from Automat Pictures http://www.automatpictures.com, the company behind the US special editions of the "Rambo" trilogy and "Basic Instinct", asking about some informations for their new DVD edition of UNIVERSAL SOLDIER !! And from what they asked me this edition seems to go much deeper than the UK special edition!

I don't know the release date yet but I guess it's due in the upcoming 6 months...

The Universal Soldier DVD will have several added features - one is a behind the scenes/making-of, with interviews of Dolph, Van Damme, the producers Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich and others. Another
documentary would be about the stunt-making. This is all I know at the moment but there should be more, including (last minute info as this what I helped for!): pics karate pics of Dolph!
No release date yet.

Few of this bonus will be found in the european (and so in the french) version, like the behind the scene and the interviews bonus.

I'm not sure the behind the scenes dcumentary will be the same as the two featurettes we know, it may be a retrospective doc with new interviews, like on the Total Recall or Predator Special Editions...

Wow, sounds cool Though I'm pretty happy with my Kinowelt edition DVD. Wouldn't buy another one just for the extras but I'd sure rent it to see those.

I think they should produce other DVDs where there is no good version available yet, or no version at all. I'm still waiting for the Johnny Mnenonic DVD with the cut scenes with Dolph, or a better version of Dark Angel. The australian one I bought recently is not too bad but the video quality could be much better and there aren't any special features. So many people are waiting for that movie, I bet there is a business case here.

Yes, that's right, dark angel (the movie, not the serial) is certainly the only movie which has not been released in dvd !?!

Dark Angel AKA I Come In Peace has been released on DVD but, as far as I know, only in Australia.

Pentathlon... hm... nope, I don't miss that one. ;-)

I think it is not called Universal Soldiers because the "Universal Soldier" is meant as a kind of brand. So it doesn't apply to only one of them but to all (Dolph, VanDamme, Möller...).
