Haha Carolco/TriStar did an ad campaign to get US1 considered for a nomination at the Oscars!
Realistically they could have been nominated for sound design or another technical award (action movies always got these back in the 90s)...

Lets face it, Gene Hackman probably sits at home looking at his best supporting Oscar from Unforgiven and cries with guilt knowing full well that the statuette should be on Dolph's mantle-piece.
That supermarket scene alone should have got Dolph the best award. No joke. 8)

The "below the line" budget (without script development costs, actors, director and producers salaries) was $14 million according to Dean Devlin in the commentary. Carolco had already spent quite a lot for a year before they hired Roland Emmerich to take over after Andrew Davis. They had many projects over budget and hired Emmerich because they knew from MOON 44 and the film he was originally hired to make for them with Stallone he could get a lot of production for little money.

Studio Canal released Blu-rays like T2 with those comic-booky covers here but not UNISOL.

I believe since Universal ditributed Studio Canal flicks until recently here, most of Universals hits got covers like that. T2, Total Recall, UniSol, Hulk, Van Helsing, Paul, Doom, Pitch Black, Chronicles of Riddick and Kick Ass.

I remember on its initial VHS release, there was a commercial for a UniSol game that viewers could play via their telephone in which they would be either Luc Deveraux or Andrew Scott. Being a phone service, it of course cost $4.99 a minute... I can't remember what the object of the game was though, nor its ultimate success. I would love to see that commercial again for nostalgia sake... Jox -- would you have access to the commercial, or would you have any knowledge / remembrance of the phone service in general?
