Great episode. Very interesting about the oil platform, since Universal Soldier has been a huge influence on the Metal Gear Solid games and they feature oil platforms prominently.

But it would make quite an impression at the market, especially in the frozen foods section.

Oh yes. Several characters in the series are named Emmerich in homage to Roland too. Metal Gear Solid V released in 2015 features a similar beginning and twist to Adkins character in Day of Reckoning (Waking in a coma, implanted fake memories and different identity).

I was pointed out that Andrew Scott's line "Are we having fun yet?" could very likely be a wink at a popular American character named Zippy the Pinhead

GHANAIAN MOVIE POSTER
https://www.pagodared.com/items/univers ... h+lundgren
Frequently unable to import official posters, theaters in Ghana hired enterprising artists to create and embellish designs to promote the films in their own style. Exemplified by this rather realistic example, the resulting work became an art form unto itself. Over time, these singular pieces of movie history have become sought after by collectors the world over.

Michael J. White on being in the first UNISOL:
I was actually in the first “Universal Soldier”, as well, in the Vietnam flashback, but you need the pause button to see me! Jean-Claude and I trained a lot together during the making of the first one, and I was just starting out at that point, but he was really gracious and we got along really well.

Universal Soldier 1991
You might not know that Andrew Davis was originally going to direct UniSol & it was going to be a completely different movie.
Here is a test puppet head we made while Andrew was still on the project.

Our own Krom unearthed this 1989 Carolco /IVE (aka Live Enterainment, bought by Kassar's/Vajna's company) promo reel on a LOCK UP videotape screener, with UNIVERSAL SOLDIER in the line-up as well the in-production TOTAL RECALL and unproduced BURNING CHROME based on William Gibson's short story, that James Cameron was then to adapt (Carolco also briefly had JOHNNY MNEMONIC in their projects).

Indeed, I remember UNISOL being announced in magazines back in January 1990 (so the company surely officially made the announcement in late 1989).

By the way, I just found another source confirming that the great John Millius was once set to direct UNISOL before Andrew Davis was...
