It's a horrendous story to hear. There have been rumblings in the past about Goddard but reading about it in Edwards' own words is rather chilling. I give Edwards credit, he's a successful actor who didn't need to share this horrible part of his past. If his words can help others deal with a similar ordeal then he's certainly doing some real good.

Of course Goddard's reps deny everything in block, and they're probably gonna try to make that go away like the last time...

More have come forward to support Anthony Edward's accusations against Gary Goddard, this is really disturbing and sickening...

On a personal note, in 2005 when I was living in LA, I was in Best Buy looking for the DVD of THE DEFENDER and met with a young clerk (no more than 18 or 20) who told me he was friends with Goddard. Later when I saw Goddard's Myspace page, it was striking how there were hundreds of "friends" who looked rather late teenage-ish, I didn't quite connect the dots and just assumed he was just gay and single, but it makes more sense now...

It's really shitty to come to terms with the fact that your childhood movie that started all was made by someone like that, almost like a psychological rape...

Behind the scenes wise regarding MOTU, I noticed more and more how he seemed to elude certain things, reconstruct some of the story, and bring everything back to him like every single idea was is, like someone who needs to rebuild his narcissism...

EDIT:
On another note here is Barry Norman's 1987 review

Gary Goddard is close friends with Bryan Singer so just look at the company he keeps. There is an old saying, "Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are."

Despite the recent revelations that put a disturbing light on a film that was life-changing in my childhood and my life, I'd like to honor the fact that MOTU was released on this day 30 years ago in France (followed by Germany and the UK in the following weeks).

Here is the amazing poster illustrated by the late Jean Mascii, a French Drew Struzan who made many iconic posters (for Cannon France notably):

Mark Driscoll, Bret Nighman, Kathleen Wilhoite and Lissa Ligett (MURPHY'S LAW, ROAD HOUSE) also came forward to denounce Goddard:

The show Dr. Oz invited several victims of Goddard last week

(video clips)

So this happened when at a time Goddard was still a fairly young adult, 18 and early twenties, and the word that he was a child molester was already in the air in this Santa Barbara community... And of course it seems to me his acts continued over the decades, and then in the dark circles of Bryan Singer and the likes...

Unlike other predators who not surprisingly look the part, Goddard doesn't look like a pig and always have been presenting himself like a genuinely nice guy. And as Wilhoite wrote,
I had imagined Gary to be a slick, scowling, showbiz guy, with dark hair and beady eyes, but he wasn’t. He had a Teddy Bear quality, blue eyes that sparkled, curly hair — a man who had never grown out of his boyish features.

Now retrospectively, I wonder how far the omerta went in Hollywood in the 1980s and after, and his not directing anything after MOTU might have have something to do with that, other than the fact that his company was likely making him much more money and the fact that he worked with some Hollywood people on attractions such as T2-3D and JURASSIC PARK...

Talk about brilliant mastermind manipulator (and I'm sure the case that was dropped a few years ago was orchestrated by his people and lawyers)...

Back to the movie, the 2012 TOY MASTERS documentary has been held up for many reasons over the past few years, one was that Roger Sweet wouldn't sign the release letting them use their interview, another was that it seems there's been some disagreements between the two directors... It's a shame because they were first in line and by far beat to it this year's POWER OF GRAYSKULL and the TOYS THAT MADE US Netflix episode...

Here's the most recent interview with Corey Landis

Dismissing the Gary Goddard affairs and its effects on my perception and history with the movie:

The virus of cinephilia infected me 30 years ago, on a rainy December 30, 1987 in Cherbourg.
This was no STAR WARS but it was mine, as an 8 year-old who had barely seen one or two live action movies on the big screen...

Image (seeing these giant marquees in the air Parisian metro, is still a strong "memory picture" in my head)

I re-watched it last night, it had been a few years I'd seen it from beginning to end, and I had forgotten how fast paced it is.
And I still don't get all the laughs and criticism, especially from those who had seen it as kids because it's hard not to get pulled in, making it harder to think about differences with the cartoon (lamer in my opinion). Even the Earth setting works better than other in other movies of that era because of the look, you see the characters evolve in a still eerie world and context, whether you're on Eternia (still quite represented) and or Earth. Not mentioning it's not that childish, dialogues well written, and quite spooky or rough at times for a child in 1987...

PS:
Special mention to the unsung heroine of this MOTU movie, editor Anne V. Coates (LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, THE ELEPHANT MAN...) without whom the film probably wouldn't be as enjoyable... I couldn't really appreciate it before but the editing is really good and some of the flaws are probably due to the footage at hand.

MOTU is definitely one of the films released by Cannon that have the best production values because apart from the cinematographer (replacing a bigger name who quit not being comfortable with the genre), they hired a top notch Hollywood crew...

There is a new Netflix show called The Toys that Made Us. One episode is dedicated to Masters of the Universe. The movie is featured briefly and Dolph did an interview (which looks very recent based on his haircut) but they only showed a few seconds of it. The show kind of trashed Dolph, or at least, one of the co-creators of He-Man trashed Dolph.
