Finished reading Brian Baer's book, HOW HE-MAN MASTERED THE UNIVERSE: FROM TOY TO TELEVISION TO BIG SCREEN. It's a pretty comprehensive book on the history of He-Man while being a relatively quick read at the same time. Really the only letdown is how it essentially reads like an extended research paper. Baer is a lifelong fan, and his passion shows through. But despite getting only a few interviews from some of the key players in the MOTU franchise (notably Gary Goddard), the rest of the information is research from various articles and sources that fans have already seen and/or read. It's cited appropriately, but outside of some of Goddard's insights in the film (many of which are new), it unfortunately doesn't lend a whole lot of new information.

Major props go to Baer for getting his passion published, but know that it's essentially a graduate thesis, rather than the comprehensive book fans may be expecting. The ART OF HE-MAN text is a little more comprehensive and what fans would expect. Still great to see something like this get attention though.

why did Gary Goddard never directed a movie after this one? imdb says he co-directs a movie with Bryan Singer, led by Hugh Jackman. that's great but this is too long break.

Because of a number of circumstances and because he got very busy...! He was already committed and jumped into his TV show CAPTAIN POWER (which he was working on before MASTERS), he also had to run his successful company Landmark Entertainment, and got busy creating more theme park attractions (such as JURASSIC PARK, TERMINATOR 2-3D, SPIDER-MAN) and deluxe buildings. He also turned down a few movie offers he did not want (including replacing Terry Gilliam on BARON OF MÜNCHAUSEN when the production got out of hand, but he told the bond company Gilliam was a genius and he wouldn't do it). He developed movie projects that never got made but like he said he was busy with other things. He was already successful in another realm before he got the opportunity to direct MASTERS (partly thanks to his CONAN show and his relationship with Mattel), and I don't think Hollywood went after him to direct more movies...

i see, thanks, jox. i love this movie and think he would heve built a successful directional career. he has talent. and what do you know about his B.Singer co-direct production? isn't he just a "ghost co-director"?

Goddard and Singer are good friends, Goddard not only wrote the project BROADWAY 4D but it sounds like a technically complicated show just like T2-3D was, so no he's not a ghost director, don't expect MASTERS though, it's a Broadway musical !
