Red scorpion dvd in the UK

Postby leigh1975 on 01 Feb 2008, 23:17

Ummm, odd one, this. Okay, if you read up on my previous posts, I'm currently trying to find the unreleased in UK DVDs to scratch my Dolph itch. I realised after all this time, i've never upgraded Red Scorpion from VHS! Criminal, i know. Anyway, I hit Ebay and picked up the Optimium version. The odd thing is, it's rated 18. Now, as far as I know, this has always been 15, but in cut status. Is this some withdrawn edition that has been issued in an uncut status without being passed by the BBFC? Has anyone seen or bought this version too? Very odd!!!

I have this version, it is the most recent version but you can still buy the 15 rated version also, its weird, but I seeked out the 18 instead of buying the 15, because I automatically thought, as you would, more violence and uncut..

Well after I got scammed about this before you did, but this rated 18 edition is still the cut DVD version and it runs longer but only because it was transfered from the NTSC one. So not worth buying...

The only uncut DVDs are a crappy and probably unofficial/bootleg disc from Belgium, and the out of print Japanese edition...

Easily a classic for Dolph. The ending reminds me very much of the Schwarzenegger classic 'Commando.' The bad guy's death is a perfect one, as is the bit where Dolph breaks the guy's arm, throws his machete into a henchman, then breaks the man's head on a corner. Ouch.

Has Red Scorpion ever been released on VHS, laserdisc or DVD in widescreen? Surely it must have been?

I don't think so. :(

It's one of my favourites (with Mechanik, Punisher end the Mulcahy's...I didn't see Men of war).

Ok the breafing is cheap, escape is botched ((dark night, dawn and daylight succeed in 5/6 shots) and we never know what becomes James Brion's character...
But it's really good.
There's no lengths, always a small skirmish to keep us in suspense, almost touching scenes (with the bushman) ...
The good idea of Zito was to taking the time to shoot the initiation trip of his war machine. It gives us a range of breathing before attacking the final carnage.

And what a show ! :P
Dolph starts dirty with his shotgun, draws with heavy artillery, playing with a machete and he concludes with a heavy machine gun, all without any dead time but with an excellent gesture (as usual) and some gores effects .

Very entertaining !

for some reason I always thought the bit where Dolph takes down the helicopter with the machine gun looked really epic. it always looked realistic and convincing.

I adore that part. Dolph using everything in his will to make sure that chopper stays the f*ck down. The villain's death is the best, though--Dolph just 180's and shoots the thing, instantly blowing it into a violent inferno.

The only bummer is that he's really not the bandanna type. I love the movie but they should have spared us that style faux pas.
