Better the bandana than the baldness from Diamond Dogs.

Nah.

Well, I'll always prefer that neat 80's style haircut of SiLT. His hair is (still) too gorgeous to cut, cover or darken it. Took me quite a long time to accept that ridiculous haircut in Red Scorpion. But the fact that his super-human body totally dragged my attention away from the haircut helped a little. ;-) He was in his best shape ever during that movie. Well, at least it looked that way. From an athletic standpoint that might not be correct.

It worked well for the "dog of war"/mercenary dirty look.

I´m hoping for a uncut dvd release which includes the flamethrower scene...

* The Australian, Korean, German, UK and US DVD all lack the scene, where the Russian soldiers are burning down part of a village with flamethrowers. This scene comes right after the choppers drop the poisonous liquid on the rebels.
* The Japanese Laserdisc contains the "Uncut" version with the 'Flamethrower' scene included.

I can´t remember if the flamethrower scene was included in the swedish vhs rental edition (many years have passed since I saw it but I have the the swedish dvd which contain the "R-Rated" version) but i think it could be cut by Statens Biografbyrå (if my memory serves me rigt, there were more scenes cut or shortened in Sweden which at that time had a pretty harsh censorship).

these are the different dvd versions according to dvdcompare

OVERALL: R2
The Japanese release contains the longer uncut version. However, it also has forced subtitles during the English audio track. All other versions contain the "R-Rated" version. The German R2 (FSK 16) is cut, so needs to be avoided.

The difference between the "US R-Rated Theatrical" and "Uncut" version of the film.
US R-Rated Theatrical Cut:
- 00:11 Alternate Opening Credits (Shapiro-Glickenhaus Presents).
- 93:44 Alternate sequence: After Nikolai Rachenko enters the building and shoots a dozen soldiers, we see a short fighting sequence with the rebel forces, Nikolai takes of his bandana and then hits a soldier from the bar fight in the face, we then see Kallunda come out of a tent and shoot 1 soldier then another 3 soldiers on a rooftop.

Uncut Version:
- 00:11 Alternate Opening Credits (S.G.E. Presents).
- 64:26 Extended Scene: Tribe sings and dances while Gao examines Nikolai Rachenko. (0.30)
- 67:37 Extended Scene: Soldiers walk into village with flame throwers, villagers run away while the soldiers burn down village. (0.53)
- 80:36 Extended Scene: Nikolai Rachenko eating chicken at fire. (0.03)
- 96:30 Alternate sequence: After Nikolai Rachenko enters the building and shoots a dozen soldiers, we see a long fight sequence with the rebel forces, and see Kallunda come out of a tent and shoot 1 soldier then another 3 soldiers on a rooftop. Nikolai takes of his bandana and hits a soldier from the bar fight in the face.
- 97:49 Extended Scene: Nikolai Rachenko slowly walks up stairs and down hallway to Colonel Zayas office. (0.27)
- 99:39 Additional blood squirts out of Colonel Zayas arm, as it is blasted off by Nikolai. (0.005)

CUTS:
R0 Korea- Shaprio Glickenhaus Entertainment - "US R-Rated Theatrical" - 101:57 mins (NTSC).
R1 America- Simitar Video - "US R-Rated Theatrical".
R2 Germany- AVU / United Video - Yes - "US R-Rated Theatrical" - 94:56 mins (PAL). 3 scenes are cut.
- Nikolai being tortured with metal needles.
- Nikolai Shoots off colonel Zayas arm.
R2 Germany- AVU / United Video - Uncut Version - "US R-Rated Theatrical" - 97:26 mins (PAL).
R2 Japan- PAND - "Unrated" - 105:02 mins (NTSC).
R2 United Kingdom- Optimum Home Entertainment - "US R-Rated Theatrical" - 102:29 mins (PAL). See Notes regarding time.
R2 CE United Kingdom- Synergy - "US R-Rated Theatrical".
R4 Australia- Paramount - "US R-Rated Theatrical" - 101:51 mins (PAL).

I have the R-rated version on DVD then, becuase no blood squirts from the guy's arm when he shoots it off, I asked myself why was there no blood.

I like the movie. It hurt me to see his hair that way LOL, but like somebody said above, his phenomenal shape completely distracted me from his haircut.

The movie is AWESOME! Great fight scenes, gun play, the kinda "touching" scenes with the Bushman where he's holding his hand as he escorts him to the now-ruined village. This movie is surely one of my favorite Dolph Lundgren movies. Good action, and as you all mentioned, that helicopter explosion was awesome!

Hey actually I tried it for you, found it recently myself.

Verdict is, as you can expect, that's it's NOT 2.35 (don't even believe it was filmed in that ratio) widescreen, it is just 1.78 and 4/3 (think they just took a full screen master to emulate a 16/9 aspect ratio). And the 5.1 spatialization sound re-mix is horrendous.

Now of course the cover is great, taking the original theatrical Thai poster and like a lot of Thai editions it comes in a nice slip case with molded titles.

At last I got myself the Japanese DVD (only descent one uncut), but I hope Blu-rays will allow us to finally enjoy this one and a few others in a respectable original aspect ratio and uncut version...
