That's stuntman Richard Hammat next to Dolph who apparently doubled Lundgren in some shots. I thought Dolph was never doubled in that one...

The HOLLYWOOD BULLDOGS documentary is to be released on Blu-ray this November (but regarding RS and Dolph, there's only a brief mention from Hammat in the doc).

Greg Pro:
Hi Jeremie, it was so long ago, it's hard to remember. I do recall this was painted before Dolph signed on. It was the script cover to show him some inspiration. He apparently liked it so much, they decided to use it for the movie poster. It was great because back then I got paid every time they published it. It was even used for the video tape cover.

I don't think I saved any preliminary sketches. This was really a fast job to get something painted. I didn't like the art at all. It was so bad I destroyed the original art.

Sad to hear the original has been destroyed.

What is the story of Synapse Red Scorpion ? I think they made the best transfer cleaning artifacts-scratches, dirt comparing with Arrow and other BD editions released around the same time. Only Splendid recent remaster of RS looks a little bit better. Which RS editions would u guys recommend today ?

IMO they didn't simply made the best transfer, they did the best edition overall regarding quality transfer and bonus/contents altogether. I think the Arrow release got interests only for his exclusive bonus and audio commentary plus the draw cover (which is not my cup of tea personally). Outside of that, the transfer is a far level below Synapse transfer.
I got the French blu ray edition too which comes with no bonus and a okay transfer.
I never owned the Splendid edition you are talking about. You are claiming that this transfer is slightly better than the Synapse one ?

Yes it looks like Splendid DE Restored Blu Ray is the best one so far. Be careful to search the Splendid mentioned RESTORED, because they have 2 earlier editions - DE Splendid Blu Ray and DE Unprocessed Blu Ray which are inferior to the Restored one. I suspect they used Synapse transfers jut improved the quality with some video editors tools ( made it s bit darker, better saturation, grain).

Maybe Jox knows better the story of this RESTORED version of Red Scorpion from Splendid ?

Thanks for your link.
I observed carefully the difference between Synapse and Splendid restored transfer through the various screenshots comparison and it is effectively noticeable that Splendid transfer is a bit darker in every SC, plus it seems slightly less grainy, more clean. The overall bitrates are a bit superior too.
I didn't know the existence of this re-edited / re-release Splendid edition.
