I didn't know about this remaster either, as I assumed they went with either the Arrow or Synapse's masters... I wonder if the recent NSM releases used that one as well.

But you could tell from the main title card that the previous masters were a little too flashy, the RED SCORPION font being in between a red to pinkish tone... Now bring on a new 4K in 1.85!

For my concern, I would only be interested if they improve the Synapse transfer. Arrow is just an okay transfer if you compare it to the aforementioned.
Thanks for the link to the NSM release, I didn't know that one either (I think RS is the Dolph's title with the highest numbers of blu ray editions  ) at least I really like the cover and they released an amaray version which is good !

What dream it would be. Unfortunately only Synapse could realistically do it and they won't take the shot as you mentioned several times that the selling numbers didn't reach their expectations... Germans release many limited editions but seems not interested about the 4K media in general.

Maybe Arrow..? They are re-releasing few titles in 4K from their catalogue lately.

Arrow mostly re-releases stuff that they already remastered on 4k, but only put out on Blu-ray. Wasn't Synapse their release a 2k scan?

With the recent amount of conversation about the best transfer/releases, we would almost need a separate topic/section for that

Thanks for the info Jox !
One more HD edition in preparation for RS. Question is, which transfer they will use for this one ?

I don't expect anything from future new release about RS (4K release aside) as I consider that Synapse perfect release plus the exclusive extras from Arrow bring us all we need regarding this movie (a bit curious about the re-release from Splendid though).

Anyway I am surprised that the japanese didn't release yet their own edition. It was the only correct release at the time of the dvd era and they often bring excellent quality on their blu ray release (i.e The Punisher or JM). And I always thought RS had a cult aura in Japan but maybe I am wrong.

No idea...

There is a Japanese release that came out in 2014 that seems pretty standard with the film only. I'm not sure but I assume they used an of the previously released masters:

The chirashi is a little different, this is from the initial US VHS release, which was re-used as the alternate cover on the Synapse edition ;)

Seems like the Italian VHS version skips the opening briefing sequence entirely...

I found newspaper evidences that the US theatrical release date is Wednesday April 19, 1989 instead of Friday the 21st (as I used to believe and read elsewhere)...
