EPIX Fires Up "Inferno: The Making of The Expendables" on August 21

EPIX, the premium entertainment channel, video-on-demand and online service, will follow up the highly anticipated August 13th release of retro action film The Expendables with a 90-minute behind-the-scenes documentary. Premiering August 21, Inferno: The Making of The Expendables takes viewers inside the massive undertaking that marks the return to the big screen of stars who defined the action film of the 80s and 90s.

In Inferno, Oscar(R)-winning actor, writer, director and producer Sylvester Stallone provides an unprecedented look at his career, producing and directing methods and complete access to the filmmaking process. His candid revelations about the price, both mental and physical, of being a film action hero underscore the fragility of stardom and the tenacity of one of Hollywood's biggest stars. Reuniting some of the biggest names of the action genre (Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Steve Austin, Randy Couture and Eric Roberts), The Expendables will introduce a new audience to the action blockbuster, the precursor to today's superhero and comic book movie extravaganzas.

"I want you to see the guys while they are sweaty and hurting; the confusion, the mayhem, the solidarity and perseverance," said Stallone, describing his approach to the documentary. "We're only around here one time, one trip, so you better make the best of it."

"This is in no way your typical behind-the-scenes fare," said EPIX President, Mark Greenberg. "Inferno is an honest, tough look at the process and rigors of filmmaking and Hollywood."

Loved the movie! Terrific piece of adrenaline cinema. Stallone knows what action fans want and he delivers it like nobody else working in theatrical films today.

Dolph was a blast. He sets the tone for the film right off the bat. Even though it's a supporting performance, anytime he makes an entrance on the screen you know things are gonna get interesting.

Terry Crews' shotgun is legendary.

I don't know if it's the throwback to ROCKY IV, their real life friendship, how Sly wrote it and directed it but anytime they're on screen together there's something going on, that's chemistry for ya!

That IS a good one. Just throwing in a couple of fresh questions makes it so much more fun because, in general, all these interviews contain the same five questions (and answers) over and over again.

The way he looks during the fight with Jet Li reminded me a ton of how he looked during the fight with Van Damme at the end of UNIVERSAL SOLDIER. Those same classic busted up facial expressions and everything.

What would be on Gunner's iPod?

Oh man, some kind of a crazy Viking hymn! [Laughs] He'd be singing it himself with a bottle of vodka and a big knife!

If anyone gets a career boost from The Expendables it will be Dolph Lundgren, playing a drug addicted loose Howitzer booted from the team and flipping to the bad side. (Ivan Drago vs Rocky again!) Lundgren plays a loony sadist well, and can still crush windpipes with the best of them.
