Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, now of course it's time for Christmas in the states. Tree, ornaments, eggnog and of course movies like Home Alone, The Santa Clause and Die Hard. But I always add I Come In Peace to the mix since it totally takes place at Christmas with first scene where guy crashes into a tree lot, wreaths on the street and guy gets killed while drinking eggnog, etc.

Headed to Houston again soon, Craig Baxley was telling me about the historic building bank and cement plant if they're still around. Looks like Bubba's Bar-B-Q next to the liquor store and club from Dolph's intro is gone though.

Sure will! Found the downtown building where Caine sets off all the sports car alarms along with shopping center they drive through. No luck on identifying his apartment building yet though.

Craig confirmed the Christmas aspect was added during his rewrites and that his wife added the epic final line of "...go in pieces"!

Imdb has trivia that came from a podcast Baxley was on, it wasn't the I Must Break This...one was it?

The script (already rewritten by David Koepp) was previously taking place in L.A., then it was a smaller Texas town/city before they decided to shoot in Houston, and indeed I'd have to look at it again but I don't remember the Christmas season in the March 1988 draft that I own.

and that his wife added the epic final line of "...go in pieces"!

Baxley keeps telling that she suggested it during production and yet the line was already written in the aforementioned earlier draft dated one year before filming took place so I wonder if his memory isn't playing him tricks...

The way it's added might be confusing but I just looked up and that part is about Baxley and Lundgren's previously aborted project called MAN TO MAN, which he mentioned in a 10-12 year-old podcast named "The Video Store Shelf".

Okay, so I looked at my draft, and it's written like this:
TALEC
"I COME IN PEACE!"

CAINE
"You mean pieces. Asshole."

So Baxley's wife perhaps suggested the "And you go in pieces, asshole" revision?

This Diabolique Magazine piece from last year was better written and more interesting in my opinion:
“Fuck You, Spaceman”: Celebrating I Come in Peace (1990)

And here's a fresh one:

Vern's review

It’s kind of like the cop movie version of BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET.
 (for those who don't know BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET is an early indie John Sayles directorial film in which Joe Morton plays an alien)
