The Punisher (1989) Ghana Movie Posters
http://robotgeekscultcinema.blogspot.co ... sters.html
"If you know anything about these Ghanaian movie posters, then you know it's a true art form, and a dying one at that. So when artists from Ghana are still commissioned to turn some of our favorite cult films into hand-painted movie posters, often on two sewn-together rice or flour sacks, it's always a big deal. And as you may or may not know, sometimes they represent the particular film well, and other times it's as if the artist never actually saw the film and painted whatever came into their heads, which is also part of their appeal, am I right?"

I can't exactly tell if this is a screenshot or an actual still photograph (and a rare one), but even if the colours are blown up it doesn't look like a shot from the film:

Urban legend:

Michael Paré was NOT for THE PUNISHER, when I interviewed him while on the set of DIRECT CONTACT he told me that
"That was a rumor, I think I was shooting when they hired Dolph. I didn’t turn it down or anything...”

Pare also addressed this rumor briefly in an interview on blogtalkradio a few years back:

He basically states that even if he was considered, he never got wind of it at any point.

What exactly is stopping a FULL restoration of the DC being released?

Smaller cult films are getting 4K releases all over the place these days.

I can't repeat it enough: the full Director's* Cut HAS been restored last year in Koch Media's Steekbook and Amaray re-releases:
https://www.amazon.de/Punisher-Steelboo ... 01FX3POCM/
https://www.amazon.de/Punisher-Uncut-Bl ... 01N5HBRR8/

*(Mark Goldblatt's Director's Cut being the Uncut version, not to be confused with the extended workprint versions)

What was stopping it before was that Fox (new worldwide owner of the rights) would only make and provide a HD master of the R-rated cut (even if they had the material which I don't think they did). Goldblatt's personal print is now handled by the Academy archives, but Koch Media found by chance a vintage 35mm uncut print dating from the French theatrical release so they scanned it in 2K and restored it into the other HD master... It's pretty flawless.

I wouldn't expect work on a 4K remaster though (unfortunately), but I should also say that koch Media's release is the only one in proper Stereo Surround sound and not a fake 2.0 or 5.1 made from a mono source on other releases.

According to Blu-ray.com the DC is just in standard definition.

No, that's for the Australian edition (Umbrella Entertainment) that they reviewed, and the first 2013 Koch Media release (mediabook) where the uncut parts are in SD (laserdisc source). (And I guess because it was a last minute thing they could not get access to the new Koch Media master which would be released at the time but the Aussies planned theirs way before.)

I know it's confusing with all the versions and various editions out there... The Australian edition is the best for including more extras (additional interviews with Goldblatt and Dolph) but if you want the best quality version of the movie then the Koch Media Steelbook or Amaray are the ones to get (not the older Mediabook). Or both for completists.
