Dolph's movies on BLU-RAY / HD / 4K UHD

Postby Jox on 23 Feb 2023, 19:21

Dark Angel deserves a better transfer in this era. Ten years ago is was OK, today looks old dated, The same with Punisher.

In regards to THE PUNISHER, since I was able to see it once again on the big screen in 35mm at the 2018 festival where I presented it, I can tell that at least the color grading of the Blu-ray is very close and faithful to the colors of the film print...

Maybe The Punisher 91989) wasn't that colorful but they could choose a better color for Blu Ray like in this HDTvrip. Blu Ray over the years become more and more washed up,

It's the same master, except that the Australian Blu from which the first capture was taken seems to have had increased lighting (which I tried on Photoshop and obtained the same result for both screenshots of Lady Tanaka)...

Thanks. The lighting destroyed the whole composition to me. The darker shots look much better and saturated, especially in Franco shot at the restaurant. More descent color and bright levels. A small trick but what a result change... Deeper scan and new framing could change the whole experience watching this movie.
Interesting is this color grading with green filter in this compilation of clip aka today always green Ultra HD, James Cameron style

The early pre-sales key art (from before DL was cast) re-used for this Laserdisc of GUNMEN starring Christophe Lambert who was actually producer Robert M. Kamen's first choice for THE PUNISHER...!

Wait, so Gunmen (1994) was originally titled The Grey Gunmen, or was it some alternate title... or am i just missing something here? I know about some post production changes the film went through, but i never heard it had any title changes. I don't think even the script had any alternate titles (like they sometimes do), since i have early draft of the script from first half of 1992, when film was originally filmed, and it has Gunmen title.

Apparently, but I can't say for sure as I'm not too familiar with this film or its genesis...

Hardly comparable and debatable but here it is:
