hiho, this clip here: says it's an alternative, deleted ending. Hm, I have one version here (US, Netherlands? Forgot...). I'm too lazy to check now but isn't the finale in that clip the original one? I didn't notice something different or new...

It's way different!

First there's no fight (the Franco is just stabbed) and then when Castle gives the gun to the kid to kill him, he gets totaly crazy psychotic, which makes it tougher and I guess it didn't please the MPAA...

the ending is exactly the same as the copy i have, no difference whats so ever.

I just watched 5 seconds of the link, and it is a different ending then the 'R-Rated Theatrical' release.

In the theatrical version Gianni Franco dies from a gun shot in a struggle with the ‘Punisher’, not a knife wound as shown in the clip .

There is only two different endings for the Punisher, isn't there? I did notice it had time codes on the your space clip.

I know you have mentioned that you have 3-4 video tapes of hybrid versions and maybe a VCD thrown in . ADSL is running slow for me at the moment, Christmas must be close ...HaHaHa.

There is only two different endings (at least from what I have and what I know), I have two different workprint cuts with it (one with the 16 minutes prologue, one without). The composer Dennis Dreith confirmed to me that the first ending was considered too hard-core at the time...

This teaser trailer was made when Dolph's Punisher was still scheduled for a summer '89 theatrical release (and it's much better than the trailer that is on the DVD)... it also contains a few shots from the prologue's deleted scenes

now I don't if I remember this correctly but the trailer I saw back then for the French release looked like this one...

Apparently it's on the NTSC VHS of "Buy & Cell" (a comedy starring Robert Carradine and Michael Winslow), released by New World Video in 1989.

Here are the opening scenes from THE PUNISHER which were cut from the finished film.

I'm glad to finally be able to see these scenes, but I can understand why they were cut. The movie works well enough to start with Lundgren already as The Punisher.

The fact is that the final movie is closer to Boaz Yakin's original script than the shooting script and what they shot. The script was rewritten by the producer Robert Kamen who added all the prologue scenes that were filmed, but then cut in the editing room... Yakin's was actually mad about this... so in the end I supposed it's normal that these scenes don't fit because it wasn't structured this way...

Too bad they had to cut the skull shirt bit in Yakin's script, becuase if they'd kept that in, the comic book fans wouldn't have been such prissy asses about the movie (I'M SERIOUS, THAT'S PRETTY MUCH THEIR ONLY COMPLAINT!)

yeah in the script (as well as the comic adaptation) he sprays the skull on his shirt right before Castle and Franco go on a showdown at the yakuza headquarters...
