Not nearly as awesome and quite ridiculous (the voice over) was this French theatrical teaser

in the same vein you can check out the French trailer of "Red Scorpion": they just took the original and dubbed it with a lame song and then in a deep voice over comes the taglines "He's a killing machine... etc" (saw it back then but did not remember that way at all...)

Nice!

The Red Scorpion one was kind of bizarre; that eighties power ballad and then the whispering voice over made it sound like a Serge Gainsbourg b-side.

And the first Punisher one WAS cooler than the one on the DVD but why do they all put so much emphasis on the "shooting-randomly-at-slot-machines-with-a-big-machinegun" scene. ThereĀ“s a lot of sweet action in that movie but they always use that scene for trailers.

The slot machine sequence is actually my favourite scene. Dunno why. Just is!

I just got word from director Mark Goldblatt himself, that the Escapism Film Festival (http://festivals.carolinatheatre.org/escapism/index.html) in Durham, North Carolina will be screening his personal print of Dolph's "The Punisher" on October 18, which is billed as the US theatrical premiere of the (unrated version) of the film!

19 years and finally it's made it to a US cinema. Good news all round these days, isn't it? Is it one special screening on one theatre and is it a public screening or do you have to be invited or buy some special ticket?

It's one special screening but it's open to the public and you can buy tickets, here is last year's page and program
http://festivals.carolinatheatre.org/escapism/2007/

Goldblatt will most likely be in attendance for the presentation and possibly Q&A.

Doubt it.

A friend of mine has been trying to put out a R2 special edition for his new DVD label to coincide with the film's 20th anniversary, but the film is trapped in some kind of legal loophole regarding the rights.

There is always loads of legal crap especially with companies that have gone bankrupt or that have changed over or the rights have been bought. Probably wouldn't be financially plausible although it has yet to be released on DVD in the UK. Pity I don't live in America, if I did I would make an effort to go to these kinda things. :(

Thats a shame as I only have a R1 dvd verison that I have had for a few years. Not even picked up and unrated verison/uncut verison yet!
