The BBFC just lowered the UK rating certificate from 18 to 15 for streaming by Icon Film Distribution:
https://www.bbfc.co.uk/release/cover-up ... c0zmtaxmja
strong violence, injury detail, sex, language, threat

Content Advice (May contain spoilers):

violence
Strong violence includes a man attempting to garrotte another, a character slamming a man's head through a glass panel and repeatedly into a wall leaving blood on it, and a man being shot, resulting in a large spurt of blood.
threat and horror
In a scene of strong threat, a gas released from a popping balloon causes two men to fall to the ground and convulse, expelling blood and pus from their mouths as they die painfully.

language
There is use of strong language (‘f**k’) as well as milder terms such as ‘shit’, ‘ass’, and ‘bastard’.

sex
A scene of strong sex featuring buttock and breast nudity sees a couple copulating in a shower. There is implied off-screen fellatio, sexual moaning and thrusting in the scene.

injury detail
There is strong injury detail, including the sight of a man who has been impaled by a sword through his chest, and a shot of a woman lying in a pool of blood after falling from a height. Blood is visible on characters faces and clothes in the aftermath of violence.

A man uses prescription pills. There is a brief scene of very mild emotional upset in which a woman cries after learning her fiance has died.

There is a very good HD master used for VOD in both US and France, so chances are it's the same one (hopefully)...

I still wish this would come out on disc but it doesn't seem to be in the cards.

I had a great interview with Coto in 2007, and I'm kicking myself for failing the recording...

FINALLY!! I know what I'm watching tonight.

It's also available for free (With Ads) on Amazon Freevee in the UK (HD and I would guess the same new master). I'm probably gonna rent it though.

If you've only seen it in 4/3 video you're in for a treat and rediscovery. 8)

It's pretty cheap to buy too. It's a shame that Icon have pretty much left the physical media business in the UK.

Yeah, I know it's not a best-seller but I would really like a physical copy especially since the HD master is very good and just what it needs to be (good upgrade and faithful to what I remember from watching the film twice in theaters).

Yeah, the transfer is good and it's nice seeing it widescreen now too. It looks more like a movie and the colours aren't as murky as the old UK DVD or VHS.

I've always found this one a little underrated so this nice (albeit not perfect) transfer definitely helps it stand out. Upon watching again though, I feel like Lisa Berkley is a weak link, where a better actress (and probably better writing) could have made the character more interesting).

Dolph's kind of quasi-thriller list has some interesting films, although The Shooter is better. Cover Up has its moments but just needed a better final act (the final twists and the last 'set piece' are a little cheap). Dolph's pretty good in it though.

She came from Dolph's acting class at the time, but according to writer and initial director William Tannen there was a name-actress originally cast but he wouldn't tell me who that was...

The final twist is a bit cringy and far-fetched, other than that I really love the last 10 minutes (shot during the actual Easter procession, which was not without small incidents), the eerie score and the ambiguous downbeat ending. I think I have a bigger soft spot for COVER UP over THE SHOOTER (which also should have been a better movie, and over all I'd probably rate them equally). COVER UP is obviously far from great or perfect but it is its own thing which makes it very likable.

By the way, did anybody think that the style of the main title sequence is kind of similar to THE PUNISHER's? Both in terms of the artistic choice and the music theme/rythmn... Manny Coto told me it was not intended or influenced but one can wonder though.
