Magician coaching and doubling Dolph with cards
“Magic Mike” may be a bit cheesy, but it’s catchy. “Hey, it got me a gig on a John Woo’s BlackJack. My hands doubled for Dolph Rundgren’s. So it can’t be all that bad.”

Could of management turn over at USA Network be the reason BLACKJACK never made it to a full TV series?
With Rod Perth’s having resigned as head of programming for USA last week, the chance of “Blackjack’s” ever going to series on USA has diminished, according to sources.

Well, Dolph's image was declining at the time, and this potential TV series was meant to revive his career in a new way (I guess they were hoping for the kind of success that Chuck Norris had with WALKER, TEXAS RANGER).

It was actually a chance that John Woo was contracted to make a second pilot for the producers after ONCE A THIEF, because he was just coming off FACE/OFF, and there was no way he would have been allowed to make a theatrical film with Dolph back then.

The pilot is uneven, but it was a decent attempt and Dolph very well shot by Woo. I don't know how the series would have been, but a change of management made the attached network not to pick it up and launch the production of the series...
