For sure the character wasn't there much in the book as it was just an element of the story, but I can tell from the two trailers that he's much more important and more present in the film (which is not too shabby given the film is a big ensemble cast piece with so many characters).

Stealth Media Group will release SMALL APARTMENTS in U.K. cinemas on March 22nd,
a week before it hits DVD 8)

The film is being distributed by Stealth Media Group in the UK with Sony Pictures handling UK Home Entertainment and TV distribution for Small Apartments.
Screening at UK Cinemas Nationwide from Friday 22nd March 2013
