Cool!

Too bad Dolph is way more awesome in it than the film itself (which is ok but... "been there done that")...

SPOILER ALERT:

Dolph IS the whole movie, he has the ONLY interesting part in it. He is awesome! I love him in this movie, back in one-man-army mode.

It's a pretty good movie too. It's more "cool" than good. The action isn't carried out perfectly but the whole thing just seems "cool" and stylized.

Little things give away the low budget nature of the film, in how it's put together but in general it looks fairly "expensive".

Cuba's character and story is super boring and the sub plot with the girl leaves you completely cold, but then it's an action movie so who cares...

And Cuba's stunt double roundhouse kicks Dolph in the face! I didn't like their big fight, it would have been more exciting showcasing Dolph superiority and having Cuba win by luck and dirty fighting. As it is now,all of Dolph's superhuman killing machine status, built up throughout the film is just nullified when he takes on Cubas stunt double and the're evenly matched.

I love the character of "The Wolf" and the ending flirts with a sequel, with Dolph and Cuba taeming up to rob rich gangsters... Could be a cool movie.
Spring, era jävlar!

No director's commentary?! :(

One In The Chamber is a decent enough modestly budgeted B-grade action movie that should have been a whole lot better than it is. That's not to say that the movie isn't worth seeing - if you're a Lundgren fan you'll definitely get a kick out of this as he's quite good here

Those who have followed Lundgren's career know that he's actually got a pretty solid knack for comedic timing and deadpan delivery and this movie makes good use of that.

Video:
Anchor Bay presents One In The Chamber on Blu-ray in an AVC encoded 1.78.1 widescreen transfer that is clean, colorful and nicely detailed. Aside from a couple of scenes that have 'grindhouse' style scratch marks and effects over top of them, the picture is very crisp and clean looking and it boasts very nice colors throughout. Black levels are pretty strong and skin tones look good. There's some mild shimmering here and there but no heavy edge enhancement or noise reduction to note. Texture is pretty impressive, you'll be able to notice the fibers that make up the various bad shirts Dolph wears throughout the movie and there's plenty of background detail to ogle throughout the movie. All in all, the movie looks quite good on Blu-ray.

Sound:
The English language Dolby True HD 5.1 on One In The Chamber is very solid. Gun shots pack a pretty strong punch and there's a solid low end here that offers some nice rumble when the movie calls for it. Dialogue stays plenty discernible and easy to follow as the levels are properly mixed ensuring that the performers never get lost in the mix. Channel separation is frequent and generally handled quite well, a few of the shoot out scenes have some nice pans across the room as the bullets fly. As you'd expect from such a recent film, there are no issues with hiss or distortion - everything comes up just fine here. Optional subtitles are provided in English SDH and Spanish.

Extras:
Aside from menus and chapter selection, the only extra on the disc is a fifteen minute featurette entitled One In The Chamber: Behind The Scenes which is little more than some random footage shot on the set during the production of the movie with occasional comments from those involved. It's not much, but it's something. As this is a combo pack release, a standard DVD containing the same cut of the movie and the same extras as the Blu-ray is also included inside the case.

it's a reasonably entertaining mindless action movie thanks in no small part to Dolph Lundgren's bizarre character.

Director Will Kaufman does an awesome job bringing this movie to life. The camera captures the fights scenes perfectly and are really the heart of the movie, we’ll that and Lundgren’s character. I

Got confirmation from Anchor Bay US that there was a "last minute production change" and that the commentary is not included (not sure it's even recorded). :(
(Last hope with the Australian edition I ordered)

It's out tomorrow in the States and France by the way!

Review from Bluray.com
http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/One-in-th ... 20/#Review
Dolph Lundgren is awesome in an otherwise pedestrian DTV Action flick.

The movie works as a serviceable time-killer. It's a pretty straightforward direct-to-video Action flick, one easily judged by the cover and just good enough to warrant a watch on a really slow day. Plus, it has Lundgren at his very best. Really.

On the flip side is Lundgren, who turns in, arguably, the best performance of his career. He acts like he was born to play this part, looking suave and having fun with killing his prey with precision, right down to the last bullet, knowing his skills are just better than theirs and by a large margin at that. He lights up the movie, energizes an otherwise dull affair, and is the quintessential "root for the bad guy" character if only because he breathes life into a movie that otherwise has but a faint pulse.

Lundgren's calm, cool, and collected gun battles are pretty much one-sided, and his effortless approach is the movie's action highlight.

Video Quality 4,5/5
One in the Chamber makes its Blu-ray debut with a high quality 1080p, 1.78:1-framed transfer. Anchor Bay's video presentation impresses from start to finish with bright, even colors and consistent, eye-catching details. Though there's minor blocking and some light shimmering on a few skyscrapers at film's open and, later, on a gray striped shirt, the transfer proves proficient and a pleasure to behold throughout. Details are exceptional across the board. Close-ups reveal an amazing amount of facial information, right down to the finest pore and line. Clothes are equally well displayed, and the transfer captures natural and manmade environmental details with remarkable precision, such as chipped paint and scuffed wooden surfaces. Colors are bold and bright but true-to-life. There's nothing garish, and the transfer handles bright red furniture and The Wolf's loud casual shirts with effortless precision. There's a hint of unnatural warmth at times, but flesh tones are mostly true and blacks honest. The HD video source yields a hint of glossiness and flatness, but not to any sort of distracting level. Though the audio's a disappointment (see below), this video transfer rocks.

Audio Quality 2,5/5
One in the Chamber features a disappointing Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless soundtrack. This one doesn't excel beyond a midlevel lossy presentation. It's toned down and front-heavy, not at all immersive and certainly lacking in body and verve. The deliberately scratchy opening title music plays with fair front end spacing and good clarity, but not much raw volume. It's almost to the point that it seems timid and reserved, a trait that sadly carries on over to the action scenes. Gunfire is downright puny and sounds as if it's disinterested in reality, or at least effort. Even shots from Ray's .50 caliber rifle just sort of plop into the soundstage with no real power. The gunfights are ripe for more, but muddled, tame, and even sometimes hard-to-hear shots rule the day. The same goes for explosions; where's the strength? Fortunately, the track does allow a hint of city ambience to float into the backs, and dialogue plays smoothly and without much trouble in terms of clarity and volume. Otherwise, this one's a big old disappointment.

Special Features and Extras 0,5/5
Anchor Bay's Blu-ray release of One in the Chamber contains only one extra, 'One in the Chamber:' Behind the Scenes (1080p, 9:45), a feature that offers Gooding, Jr. and Lundgren discussing the plot and the story's themes. It also contains a good amount of raw behind-the-scenes, on-set footage. A DVD copy of the film is also included on disc two.

Overall Score and Recommendation
One in the Chamber isn't a terrible movie in the grand scheme of things, and it's saved from oblivion by a deviously wonderful performance by Dolph Lundgren in what is arguably the best work of his lengthy career. He alone is reason to catch the movie. The rest of it's rather bland, including a stiff performance of an equally stiff character by Oscar winner Cuba Gooding, Jr. The plot is dull, somewhat overly complex, and the action's unremarkable, but do check out One in the Chamber for Dolph's great work. Anchor Bay's Blu-ray release of One in the Chamber features good video, disappointing audio, and only one supplement. Rent it.

It's not much of an exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for the presence of veteran action star Dolph Lundgren, director William Kaufman's hitman flick, ONE IN THE CHAMBER (2012) would be completely unmemorable.

Co-star Lundgren, on the other hand, valiantly rises above his stock hitman role with a certain self-aware, knowing quality to his performance that puts a welcome, satirical edge on his cliché dialogue. I'd also be curious to know who chose his wardrobe, because I suspect it was his idea - a succession of colorfully tacky Hawaiian and bowling shirts with a jaunty straw hat that actually gives his character some, well, character that isn't there in the script. In fact, Lundgren is a joy to watch in this film, a true genre pro who really knows how to hold the screen and make the most out of the job.

The Blu-ray/DVD Combo from Anchor Bay is a typically solid release for a brand new film. The Blu-ray features a pristine, satisfying 1080p 16x9, 1.78:1 widescreen transfer and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 audio. The included DVD has a standard def, 1.78:1 anamorphic transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1. Both discs include the same Behind The Scenes featurette and a handful of previews.

ONE IN THE CHAMBER is, in a word, generic. There's literally nothing in this movie that you haven't seen before, and often done better. It might be worth a rental on a slow day just to enjoy Lundgren's superior performance, but you'll have to be patient - it's a full 25 minutes before his character shows up.

One in the Chamber does forward the idea explored in this week’s biggest box office earner that Lundgren does have a natural funny bone, can still perform action sequences well, and he might be a better on screen presence than ever before.

Lundgren, however, seems to be having a blast single-handedly keeping the movie afloat, acting a bit like what Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character in Red Heat might have been like with a more pleasant disposition and he was a tourist. Lundgren’s fun to watch, but the rest of the film is the pits. A 10 minute assemblage of behind the scenes B-roll is the lone special feature, offering nothing.

Just finished up this one. Dolph is really the only reason to watch it. He is fantastic in his supporting role and pops up every ten minutes or so. The rest is the typical cliche mournful hitman story that you've seen a billion times before. Cuba Gooding, Jr. looks bored in the lead and I wish it had been someone like Scott Adkins instead. Definitely check it out for Dolph's performance though (like I have to tell anyone on this forum that).

From director William Kaufman on his FB page:
Today's the day that "ONE IN THE CHAMBER" releases nationwide on Bluray and DVD. For those of you that haven't heard already, this was a really fun project that I got brought on to direct last fall, that teamed me once again with Cuba Gooding Jr., and alongside Dolph "I Will Break You" Lundgren :) and was shot on location in Bucharest Romania. Just want to thank the producers once again for the opportunity to work with such a fun cast and top notch crew.

If you like old school, dark action flicks... Check it out!

Damn those are some ridiculously good reviews for Dolph... never a bad thing when our guy carries a movie whose headliner is an OSCAR winner... geez how far has cuba jr. fallen these days?

This coupled with EX2 has really put Dolph back on the map again!

There you have it, from WK himself:
No I didn't do a commentary for the film... We had planned to but schedules just never worked out.

Dolph is easily the best thing about the film. Any ideas if his character's eccentric dress was written that way, or if it was added in courtesy of Dolph? I could see him altering his character to differentiate from his other roles...
