Chad Law who rewrote ONE IN THE CHAMBER talks to Impact:

You worked on One in the Chamber (Dolph Lundgren & Cuba Gooding Jr.) which was a real throw back to the old-school action film and I was a huge fan. How did you become involved with the picture?

CL: The same producers I did Six Bullets with... one of them asked me to rewrite the script they had for '...Chamber' a while back. I couldn’t do it at the time for whatever reason. Not in the amount of time they needed it done by, anyway and another writer was brought on to do the rewrite. Then when Will Kauffman, the director, and Cuba - both of who I’d worked with before - came on board, it ultimately came back around. That was one I was involved with all through the production, by the way. They needed something and I was there kind of thing. But I’m glad you liked it, man, thanks. A lot of talented people put a lot of time and hard work into that movie to make it what I feel it became. Like you said, it’s just kind of an old school throwback action movie and I really like that about it.

Still haven't gotten round to seeing this, is it really one of his better recent non-theatricals?

It's part really cool and part not so great. But compared to DL's recent ones... In The Name Of The King, Stash House... It's Citizen Kane.
Spring, era jävlar!

ONE IN THE CHAMBER is opening theatrically in Korea tomorrow (even AGENT RED and RETROGRADE has theater releases there).

Even though the UK version says it's featureless on the box, it contains the ten minute featurette.

I have to be honest... I really liked it! It's a lot slicker than the budget might suggest, it has some sense of style that DTVs sometimes lack, I thought Cuba was better than the reviews he's been getting for this suggests, Dolph was brilliant in his left-field role, The action was sharp and crunchy rather than too big for the budget (or as I call it, the Shadow Man syndrome  ), and the plot kept the interest... I like the fact that the story doesn't alwaays rush itself to the next fight or shootout. As I've only seen UNISOL 4 on a tiny laptop and I'm waiting until the Feb release date to say otherwise, but I'm calling OITC the best 'dolph vehicle' he's done since Mechanik.

Tom wrote:I've already watched it second time and it holds up. It's well made, nothing brilliant, but it's decent and Dolph owns the film. He's really good in it. I think though Cuba's a good actor, he just lacks something in a role and film like this.

I just think it's a character choice Cuba made for the role. I've heard a lot of people say he was weak in Hit List too, but repeated watches show that it has a couple more layers than it first seemed. I think people always see him as the 'show me the money' character, and when he's not that 'big' people think he's not trying. especially in DTVs. To which I say 'go watch Hero Wanted, then we talk'.
