I really liked the Death Race sequels too. What he did with what must be a quarter of the original's budget is amazing. Pistol Whipped was Seagal's best since Into The Sun, for sure. But it still has those annoying Seagalisms that stifle directors' work and choices... setting matches alight with gunshots...

Ernies pretty good. I actually thought Assassination Games was pretty decent. I didn't rate it first time round, but on second viewing I thought it was well made.
Cube Zero was very well made too, even if the film wasn't brilliant.

I agree. I liked Assassination Games eventually too... Originaly I got swept up on the fact that it was not action packed enough, which is frustrating because it means I dumb my tastes down for DTV. I always hoped I was more broad-minded than that.

Yeah my initial problem with Assassination Games was that before I'd seen it, there'd been a lot of decent reviews and JC fans seemed to really dig it (and often they're a really hard bunch to please). I kind of expected more. But second time I appreciated it more for what it was and did. In actuality it was similar with The Package. The reviews were really good for this before I'd seen it, and I'd read the script which had a little more action, so I expected more. But yeah, second time around I enjoyed it, viewing without too much of the expectation I went in with on first viewing. It's just a good fun action romp. Done just about as well as it could be given the limitations.

I watched THE PACKAGE last night and was surprised by it; mostly because the earlier Austin vehicles I had seen (HUNT TO KILL, TACTICAL FORCE) were really bad. Austin is still really stiff (both acting and physically) but the director plays upon these traits better than the previous helmers. Also, Johnson handled the action scenes a lot better than most, not resorting to the shaky cam crap that a lot of DTV action guys use. Of course, the highlight is Dolph Lundgren, who delivers another juicy co-starring role much like he did in the Cuba Gooding, Jr. action flick ONE IN THE CHAMBER last year. While I'd still like to see Dolph get back in the directing chair, these roles are good enough to fill the time in between.

I really wasn't keen on this one, the only joy I got out of it was seeing Dolph having fun acting again. It's pretty well made for what it is, but it's just so... meh. Just seems like a very average story to me.

I'm not sure how reliable the-numbers.com site is... but hey have a domestic weekly DVD sales report of $3,318,018 in its first 4 weeks (137,339 units sold): http://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Package-The-DVD
(that's not counting Blu-rays, unless they count the combo pack as a DVD)

This is reportedly more or equal to UNISOL 4 ($2,059,849 - 108,620 units sold) but its numbers don't seem to be up to date...

Thanks to Bomaz for the heads up!

That must be a success right? If this is just DVDs in the US alone this must be bringing in the doe. I mean there is TV rights, streaming and all that stuff plus the international markets...
