Grace Jones talks AVTK and Dolph/Hans to Andy Warhol for Interview Magazine (1984):
WARHOL: In the James Bond film you're doing, are you going to play the same kind of character?

JONES: No. It will be more feminine. Also tough, but feminine tough, lethal. I'm the bad guy, and then, of course, after Bond makes love to me, like all the other women, I wake up out of my hypnosis, and I turn good in the end.

WARHOL: Who is James Bond now?

JONES: It's still Roger Moore, but I wish it were Hans [Lundgren, GJ's bodyguard beau now known as Dolph Lundgren]. He should be the next James Bond. I don't think Roger has much more...

TALLEY: This is his last film.

JONES: I don't think he can go anymore. Hans is going to be coaching me for the kickboxing scenes. I'm a kickboxer in the movie and Hans is a champion kickboxer, so it's perfect.

WARHOL: He'll be in the movie, too?

JONES: Yeah, I don't know anyone who could coach me any better.

How do you keep your body so beautiful?

JONES: I pump iron with Hans.

TALLEY: Every day?

JONES: Yes.

WARHOL: You don't have varicose veins.

JONES: I never do that much.

WARHOL: Where do you workout?

JONES: Madison Avenue Muscle. Great name, isn't it? It's beautiful, all new black gorgeous machines. I cant wait just to lay there and do a leg curl on it. You just want to stay in there and go from one machine to the other. It's really like making love to them.

Apparently quite a few informations on Grace and Dolph/Hans in the autobiography of James Bond producer Albert Broccoli, first published in 1998 on print as "When the Snow Melts: The Autobiography of Cubby Broccoli" and re-released on Kindle as "The Autobiography of Cubby Broccoli: The Man Who Brought JAMES BOND 007 to the Screen"...

Anything new that we haven't already heard...? Dolph has been pretty candid about his releationship with Grace, especially in the past few years...

I don't know I was just told that but haven't seen read it yet, apparently daughter Barbara Broccoli also tells a "weird" story about Grace.

JAMES BOND IN OUR SIGHTS: A CLOSE LOOK AT 'A VIEW TO A KILL' by Andrew McNess

Largely seen by fans and critics alike as the overly-formulaic orphan child of the ‘70’s smash Bond hits, “A View To A Kill,” the 14th installment of the modern cinematic classic, is the film in question in Andrew McNess’s James Bond In Our Sights. McNess puts up an exuberant display of a film critic’s sharp, trenchant observations and a compleat fan’s reverence for the condign qualities of Ian Fleming’s, cool, womanizing spy-hero.

The film marked Roger Moore’s final performance as Agent 007. However, in the author’s superbly well-reasoned contention, “A View To A Kill’s” intriguing, even subtle, qualities have been unrecognised or passed over since its 1985 release. Such is the fate of the erstwhile late entry in a series that already commanded a solid, respected place in the popular imagination. By reason, perhaps, of various factors attendant upon a popular culture vehicle, the film was simply accepted as another Bond film.

In entertaining and thought-provoking fashion, McNess shines a light on the unique qualities of the film and how they achieve a transcendence through working creatively within formulaic parameters, rather than struggling against them.

Grace Jones Documentary Added to BBC Films Slate
By Phil Gallo

BBC Films is backing a documentary on Grace Jones.

The film arm of the British Broadcasting Co., which announced its 25th anniversary projects on March 25, has commissioned Sophie Fiennes to direct Grace Jones -- The Musical Of My Life. Fiennes' film, being co-financed by BFI Film Fund and the Irish Film Board, has been in the works for seven years. BFI chose to fund the film in June.

James Wilson and Katie Holly are co-producing the film, the first-ever on Jones. It has been described as "a cinematic journey into the private and public worlds of Grace Jones, mixing intimate personal footage with unique staged musical sequences."

A former model who became a new wave sensation in the 1980s with hits such as "Pull Up to the Bumper," "Slave to the Rhythm" and "Private Life," she has long been seen as a musical and fashion influence on scores of female singers. Jones stopped recording with 1989’s Bulletproof Heart, returning in 2008 with Hurricane. She contributed the track "Original Beast" to Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 soundtrack last year.

Jones, who will appear in Hyde Park in London on June 21 with Kylie Minogue.

A director and editor, Fiennes will make her music documentary debut with the Jones project. Her last full-length documentaries include The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology and Over Your Cities Grass Will Grow. Fiennes is the sister of actors Ralph and Joseph Fiennes.

50 Essential Feminist Films

48. A View to a Kill, John Glen

The James Bond canon is hardly “feminist,” but hear me out. One person who is rarely discussed when it comes to the franchise is one of the most powerful women behind the series, Barbara Broccoli. Daughter of famed producer Albert R. “Cubby” Broccoli, who established the franchise as a blockbuster extravaganza, Broccoli started working as a Bond publicist as a teenager. She became assistant director on 1983’s Octopussy at 23 years old and found herself in the same role two years later for A View to a Kill. The Roger Moore-starring film boasts Broccoli’s influence and atypical Bond girl May Day, played by Grace Jones. Bond’s transformation throughout the 1980s saw the secret agent allying with unique female characters who were portrayed more like equals instead of mere eye candy. The Jamaican musician and actress, who has been a raucous proponent of female empowerment for decades, plays a bodyguard in the movie with superior strength — enough to even outperform 007.

This incredible one of a kind model was used in the Golden Gate Bridge scenes as Moore dangles from the Zorin airship, this was the only one created for this shot. The figure was purchased directly from the model maker responsible for this scene. The puppet is made from fiberglass with real material clothes, the tiny grey Zorin jacket has a metal zip with miniature Zorin logo on the back. There is even a tiny aluminium Rolex! Amazing detail. The original hands were made of latex and had begun to decay, they were professionally replaced. The originals will also be supplied. The figure has been framed in a custom made shadow box with a photo of Roger Moore as he first grabs the airship along with an original Australian daybill poster. The prop is accompanied by production used printed storyboards on photographic paper featuring this same scene (20 pages).

It was interesting. I mean, it was overwhelming - first I was in the Bond Movie set, it was very impressive. I remember they shot at the Eiffel Tower, and in those days, you could just rent the Eiffel Tower for 2 days, close it down and shoot a movie, I don't think you can do that anymore. And I met Roger Moore, and a few other people. And I played a small role, literally 2 minutes I was gone, but that got me a little taste of the whole show business experience, in and around the set.
