Tomb of the Dragon continues shoot in Beijing starring Dolph Lundgren

GFM, Midsummer, Beijing Zhongshida working on $12m 3D family adventure. Tomb of the Dragon is entering its seventh week of shooting in Beijing, with Dolph Lundgren [pictured] and Scott Adkins leading the cast.

The GFM films project, budgeted at $12m, is shooting on location close to Beijing’s lake and reservoir district in Yi County. It will shoot for a further two weeks on location and at the China Film Group Studios in Beijing. Delivery is planned for first 2013.

The story is about a mysterious creature said to be living in a lake, living undiscovered until workers disturb its habitat. As local start to disappear, one man (Adkins) wants to capture and study the beast, while Lundgren’s character wants to kill it.

The film is being shot in 3D as a family adventure film. Financiers are Midsummer Films from the UK and by Beijing Zhongshida in China. It marks the first work in China for both GFM and Midsummer. Producer Chris Milburn of Midsummer said “being at the forefront of UK ­Chinese joint investment in film production is very exciting. Working with our Chinese partners is a collaboration where we both have lots to learn from each other but even with differences of culture and work practices, we have the common goal of making a great film. It is very inspiring. We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership together and to Midsummer being able to be a part of one of the worlds’ fastest growing film markets.”

GFM’s Michael Ryan added: “We jumped at the opportunity of working with Chris on this film. He is one of Europe’s busiest producers and we hope this is the first of many collaborations. The opportunities in China are endless and the door is now wide open for co­productions thanks to the considerable efforts of IFTA and the MPAA in negotiating the new trade agreement.”

GFM has pre­sold to Germany (Telepool), Eastern Europe (Mediapro), Latin America (Fivestar), Middle East (ECS), Turkey (Aqua Group), and Portugal (Lusomundo).

It would be a shame if an exotic adventure movie end up cheap and poorly made. Especially with D teaming up with Scott Adkins.

They claim it's a $12 million production but again they always hype movies for more than its real cost to get a good prices from foreign distributors, it probably cost half or third of it being shot in China, and from what I was told by insiders it sounds like they were cheap on everything...
