Praise from Sheldon Lettich himself:

QUOTE(Actionfan @ Mar 23 2007, 12:06 PM) *

I have a question for you Sheldon.

Being an Experienced Director of 7 movies,How would you gauge JC's directing on The Quest and Dolph's recent Efforts The Defender and the Mechanik?(Aka Russian Specialist here)

If I had to compare the two, I'd have to say I was more impressed with Dolph, especially with his work on "The Mechanik."

Just found the movie in the "used" bin (but it was unopened, probably some Sony bloke who sold his free copy) for 3 bucks ! (the region 1)

It's a blast. They could have thought make it a DVD-9 with better compression (it's a DVD-5, anything to save a few buck eh ?)

If you want the German edition you have to get the one that says "Extended edition" on the cover (even though it's not extended but just uncut) ... and it should be 90 mins because PAL runs shorter than NTSC... otherwise pick up the French edition then there isn't different versions and the behind the scenes featurette is included too...

It seems that you've bought the censored version, if it is this one:

http://www.ofdb.de/view.php?page=fassung&fid=86876&vid=169296

Running time 87:41

Here's the "Extended Version" Jox is referring to:

http://www.ofdb.de/view.php?page=fassung&fid=86876&vid=161941

Running time 90:01

And here is another cut version ("FSK 16"), unfortunately without a picture of the cover or a reported running time:

http://www.ofdb.de/view.php?page=fassung&fid=86876&vid=169449

The comment on that page says "Even more cut than the FSK 18 version. Stay away at all means and buy the SPIO/Jk rated version".

ebay.de doesn't allow FSK 18 or unrated titles because there are strict laws in Germany regardig mailorder material for adults only. You won't find the title on amazon.de, either. If you found it on ebay.at it may be the uncut version. Or you were lucky and ebay.de didn't notice. ;-)

THE MECHANIK is coming to the UK too!

Postby leigh1975 on 14 Apr 2008, 18:30

Just been rated a 15 by the BBFC! And it's not using the weak US title like I thought they might if it WAS ever released here...

MECHANIK UK DVD cover

IMHO, not as good as the US/Australian cover, but still streets ahead of the Seagal Photoshop covers. Also note that this is released by DNC, and not Sony.

cool press release
Dolph Lundgren, the quintessential all action superstar, returns in the adrenaline pumping thrill ride The Mechanik, an all guns blazing, rollercoaster tale of revenge.

The DVD will be available on 21 July 2008 courtesy of DNC Entertainment.

The roaring action centres around former Russian paratrooper Nick Cherenko (Lundgren); a family man trying to live a quiet life until his young family are brutally murdered by Russian gangsters.

Emigrating to the US, he works undiscovered as a mechanic, until a wealthy woman begs him to track down her kidnapped daughter.

Though initially reluctant, the woman aware of his past convinces him by revealing the identity of the kidnappers the same gangsters who killed his family over half a decade ago.

He boards the next plane to his homeland, with nothing but revenge on his mind.

Also starring Ben Cross (War Inc., Hero Wanted, JJ Abrams new Star Trek film), The Mechanik sees Lundgren step behind the camera once again for his second film as director (following The Defender). With such notable career highlights as Rocky IV, The Punisher, Universal Soldier and the recent DVD hit Missionary Man, Lundgren epitomises a generation of action movie heroes.

In The Mechanik he brings his vast experience of the action genre to bear on his international cast, and produces a gritty and exhilarating picture that is a must see for any fan of heart pumping movies.

I still like "The Controller" DVD cover from Greece the best, all other releases have been identical.
