It's not quite as bad as some people make out, in comparison with Dolph's recent efforts though, it's pretty terrible. Obviously it's really cheap, in every possible way, some fights are good, there's a good explosion and I for one kinda like the documentary style, but the look of the movie is bad, if only they'd have taken Dolph's cut which I guarantee woulda been better. It's very anti-climatic too and the other actors are pretty bland, interesting locations though. Just don't expect anything good mate.

Nah, that cover pic of CP is from Direct Contact.

I just realized the title of Direct Contact sounds more like a science fiction film than a shitty action movie. Plus the title makes little to no sense.

Jox, where do you get pictures like that? The first two are very cool and quite big. When i search for pics like that all i get is forign covers or pictures from the covers, of which i don't want.

Good question, those three were on the online store laserdisken.dk page of THE MECHANIK; usually it's almost random just by doing my regular google search on DL that I'll find a page with good quality pics...

A friend of mine did this Criterion Collection cover knock off for fun

Your "friend" (wink, wink) has chosen really good pictures for these covers and using-a-lot-of-white is an easy way to "class things up", but everything else about them is pretty shoddy. It would take the average person about twenty minutes to produce these from start to finish... and it kinda shows.

They actually remind me of the movie posters for little art house movies/film festivals they used to make us watch back at school. Like a thrown together version of a classy, artsy poster/cover.

Yeah that was the point, top make them look like a Bergman type arthouse movie covers in the style of the Criterion collection. A guy started to do those on a site, took famous movies and made them look like something different.

I don't know what the Criterion collection is (and I'm not going to Google it and pretend I do) (for once) but it's fun to see an action movie presented as a drama. Like I said, the pictures chosen are terrific and the idea is amusing. Besides I wasn't trying to be rude, I truly believe that it took this person about twenty minutes to make these from start to finish. We made a bunch of these types of mock-ups back in school (a loooong time ago) and that what I base that guess on.

I'm glad your friend finds Dolph interesting enough to spend some time on.

Never heard of it? That's a shame, let me tell you anyway, since the age of laserdisc they've been releasing, restoring and putting out some of the best US prestige special editions in terms of sound, image and special features quality (even packaging). They select their titles carefully but their catalog is very diverse: it goes from the Kurosawa and Bergman classics to indie European movies AND more genre-based stuff, like John Woo's THE KILLER and HARD BOILED, Verhoeven's ROBOCOP and even Bay's THE ROCK. It's a cult collection among movie and DVD aficionados, their discs are more expensive and soon go out of print but it's usually money well spent.

He's not a fan but he's one of my best buddies and a movie buff as well, I managed to show him THE DEFENDER and THE MECHANIK + a few others and convinced him that Dolph was cool as hell

Dolph's kill count

This is one of those films that I didn't like the first time I saw it, but after watching it again recently I thought it wasn't bad. Same thing happened with Sweepers.

Anyone got a definite answer on the bluray being region free?
