I've often wondered this. There came a brief period where he tried to move away from playing bad guys, and played good guys, which didn't always fit him quite as well. Plus to some extent, Rutger is actually too interesting an actor to be a lead, or to be mainstream. It's why he never really broke out as a leading man. He's better in supporting roles, or as antagonists.
But I'm with you, Blade Runner is my favourite film. Rutgers still one of my favourite actors. Despite the way his career went, he's almost always reliable, even in bad movies. He's known for being unpredictable on set too. Which might have put some people off too.

Yeah, he's not the superstar type and wouldn't have had a career like George Clooney anyway. I think worked like any actor, taking jobs that were offered to him, enjoying it as he could, while still pursuing more serious (not "genre" movies) or more personal projects (he directed a few things, mostly shorts, I'm not sure but he might be a painter or some kind of artist on the side as well etc). Hollywood is too harsh, like others he probably let it go rather than risking his soul to trying to make it as a superstar... He's not getting any younger either (even 14 years ago when I saw him once).

Back on the pipeline with a new script, character name (Michael Anderson -- as in COVER-UP), alternate title (HARD NIGHT FALLIN') and director (Giorgio Bruno) and some of the Italian producers of THE TRACKER and MALEVOLENCE :?:

Giorgio Serafini posted som scout pictures on his FB. I wonder if it's for this one, for Malevolence, and what it means for the schedule of both (I guess Dolph will be busy in november and december for publicity tour for Creed 2 and Aquaman).

There's also a project lined-up called SURVIVAL apparently (or is it another title again?)

This might be shot while Dolph is doing prep for MALEVOLENCE, will try to find out ASAP...

Nice sets (from steadicam operator's account)

I hope he'll get to Malevolence really soon. Despite its exotic plot, this one looks like a quickie gig.

A couple of cast/crew members refer to it as SURVIVAL

Jeez this kinda came out of nowhere. Hope it's decent. These days I'd settle for decent DTV movies of The Package and One in the Chamber quality in among the co-starring roles for Dolph.

Not too hyped for this one right now, but kinda cool to see what Dolph would have looked like as a Reservoir Dog.

I'm just hoping they don't use those shitty CGI muzzle flashes. My pet hate, switches me right off the film.

Most of the crew is the same from THE TRACKER so we'll have a taste on that one first... Hopefully since the initial project 4 TOWERS has been in development for years, they had time to raise the script to a decent level (and maybe less characters).

Seems they can't choose between calling the movie SURVIVAL or HARD NIGHT FALLIN'...

I prefer Hard Night Fallin' - has a bit more of a retro action vibe to it - Survivor sounds like a generic slasher film set in a forest.
