Don’t Kill It, directed by Mike Mendez, is the kind of low budget action horror movie that I wish the B-movie world made more often. It’s funny, weird, gory as hell, and has a classic performance by Dolph Lundgren, a bonafide B-movie legend. If Fangoria was still an actual magazine Don’t Kill It would have to be a cover story and, well, a cover. It’s one of those kinds of movies.

The world needs a franchise like Don’t Kill It. It really does.
See Don’t Kill It. See it, see it, goddamn see it.

Should be released in France on september 6th. Same distributor as Skin Trade, at least the framing will be faithful.

Actually it's coming from Factoris Films but I think there's a distribution deal with M6/Warner Home VIdeo. From what I was told it should also be sold along with the September issue Mad Movies... There will be no Blu-ray though.

Interview with Mike Mendez
SRW: Okay! You’ve just completed two very interesting sounding films with Dolph Lundgren and Henry Rollins (two, um, very warm and cuddly leading men). Can’t wait to see them! Tell the Tornado Alley readers what they’re about and when and where they can expect to see them.

MM: I did a terrible film with Henry Rollins, I won't even mention it's name. It was the smallest budgeted movie I had ever done and I was quite excited about it. For reasons that I don't fully understand the producers of the film decided to not involve me in the final stages of post production. They recut the movie, took out much of the gore and violence, and didn't involve me at all with the music, visual fx, sound and color correction. The end result is a festering pile of shit I'm embarrassed to have my name on.

The other film I did is called "Don't Kill It" starring Dolph Lundgren. We had a blast on this movie. It was a bit of a return to my roots with movies like "The Convent". It's a bloody blast of a movie. It premiered at Fantastic Fest and will be hitting VOD and limited theaters on March 3rd. I'm really excited for people to see it!

I don't know, he's been in the business for more than 20 years with cult movies under his belt but has never got a real break. He and the type of films he makes don't seem to fit the Hollywood system, and also once you've worked on DTV movies for a while, they keep putting you in that box no matter how talented you are. Like he says he likes to edit his own films to keep control, major studios wouldn't let him (and he knows he wouldn't have as much fun making movies). The realm of film business where money is a stupid egoistic industry...

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0579079/reference#director

Mendez directed 8 feature films (+ a feature documentary, MASTERS OF HORROR, and a segment of TALES OF HALLOWEEN). His first two movies KILLERS (1996) and THE CONVENT (2000) got him noticed, then THE GRAVEDANCERS (2006) and BIG ASS SPIDER! (2013) helped him solidify his reputation as a cult horror director. On the side, he's working as an editor.

Big Ass Spider and Lavantula are definitely worth checking out due to the right layer of campy tone and editing.

For those still waiting for signed perks from the Indiegogo campaign to be shipped, they're still "waiting on the final items to be signed, and will be sending all signed perks as soon as possible"...

The Rollins film he's talking about is The Last Heist. It's funny, the film is a mess, you can literally see where it's been taken and gutted on almost every level, but there's a spark of talent that still manages to break through. He's a talented guy, but much like Roel Reine, he'll never get that break out of his DTV niche.
